People Helping People is a list of charitable causes in our area that need donations or volunteers. The Beacon Journal has not investigated these causes, so donors should verify their worthiness and the tax-deductibility of contributions.

The Salvation Army Summit County, 190 S. Maple St., Akron, OH 44302, is seeking volunteers to perform these tasks:
• Pack boxes of food and such items as toiletries and cleaning supplies between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Dec. 7.
• Prepare bags of toys. Volunteers can work anytime between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Dec. 12, 13, 16, 17, 18 or 19.
• Ring bells at a Salvation Army Christmas kettle. Many locations are available with flexible scheduling.
• Help with the distribution of food and toys Dec. 20. Volunteers can work as long as they wish between 8 a.m. an 8 p.m.

Carin’ For Sharon is a cancer benefit that friends, family and co-workers organized for Sharon Boone, a dispatcher at the Green Fire Department who has battled cervical cancer for two years. The event will be 6 to 10 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Courtyard Marriott, 4375 Metro Circle NW, Jackson Township.
Admission is $10 at the door. The event will include food, music, raffle baskets and a cash bar.
Organizers are seeking donations of food, paper products and raffle items, as well as volunteers to help during the event. Donations are requested by Sunday but will be accepted until the day of the event.
