Animal lovers gathered at the Blue Canyon Kitchen & Tavern in Twinsburg Wednesday evening for Chefs Who Care, a fundraiser for PAWSibilities, Humane Society of Greater Akron. Executive Director Karen Hackenberry thanked Blue Canyon for providing food for the event that featured raffles and a live auction. Tori Tedesco welcomed guests, and Ellen Gelender and Alex Marzullo sold raffle tickets.
Hackenberry said the shelter population swells this time of year: 231 cats, 131 dogs, a frog, three guinea pigs and a rabbit. She invited guests to step out on the patio to meet some of the animals.
There, Ted Moore introduced Bernadette, a 3-year-old mixed-breed dog who arrived at the shelter with eight puppies. All of the puppies have been adopted, Moore said, now it’s time for Bernadette to find her “forever home.” “She loves everyone,” Moore said, as Bernadette snuggled with Bryan Edwards.
Sheri Clark enjoyed dining on the patio with her daughter, Jennifer; her mother, Betty Miller; and Jon Connor and Matt Begley. Shari-Lynn Taylor said her dog, Bailey, adopted her when she visited the shelter, as Vicki Mitchell introduced Lola, an 8-week-old puppy who enjoyed meeting new friends.
Patrick Weschler had his eye on the giant Hershey bar as he viewed the variety of auction items with his son, Chris. Dawn Hartman introduced her aunt, Donna Leibensperger, who came from Canton with her husband, Bob. Also enjoying the event were: Kerrie Bowman, Jim Sebastian, John Krajewski, Judy Steiner, Gail Mix, Bob and Kellie Zajac, Peter and Gayle Klein, Mark Daye, Charlene Crimaldi, Kate Tonti, Scott and Tessa Herman, Elizabeth Haase andLoretta Ford.
Hackenberry saluted Hartman, “who is a dog’s best friend,” and Don and Lorraine Fair, who helped make the new shelter in Twinsburg possible. She invited guests to “save the date” of Sept. 13 for the PAWSibility Ball at the Hilton Akron/Fairlawn.
Weschler presented the Blue Canyon with a certificate of appreciation for hosting. For more information about adoptable pets or volunteering, call 330-487-0333.
