Music and movie
The Akron Art Museum will host a showing of Breadcrumb Trail at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The documentary, presented through Akron Film + Pixel, focuses on the band Slint, which released its second album, Spiderland, in 1991 and then broke up. But the band, which has reunited from time to time, proved influential and recently issued a limited-edition, deluxe box set that also includes Breadcrumb Trail. One review of the film called it “an exciting examination of the more ephemeral aspects of artistic creation” focusing more on the band’s art than its breakup, although “both the creation and the dissolution traveled the same vein.”
As with the museum galleries on Thursday, admission to the movie is free.
At 8 p.m. Friday , the Cleveland Pops Orchestra will perform a concert in conjunction with the NASA Glenn Research Center titled A Tribute to NASA: To Reach the Unreachable Stars.
The orchestra and the Cleveland Pops Chorus will create the soundtrack to films provided by NASA. Among the pieces will be familiar fare such as The Jetsons and Star Wars themes, and music from Apollo 13, Mars from The Planets by Gustav Holst, and Voyage into Space, composed for John Glenn by Peter Nero.
Local singers Lindsey Mitchell and Connor O’Brien will perform songs from Broadway musicals (vaguely) related to the theme, such as Defying Gravity, The Impossible Dream and Stars.
Tickets are $29-$82 and can be purchased at www.clevelandpops.com.
