Market at Lock 3
There’s still time to head to downtown Akron for the annual Holiday Market at Lock 3 Park at 200 S. Main St.
There are unique, handmade gifts, including the Mario Hausdorfer hand blown glass Christmas ornaments from Germany.
The market is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday for Christmas Eve.
The market resumes after Christmas.
Bask in Glow
The holidays last extra-long at Cleveland Botanical Garden, where the annual Glow in the Garden celebration continues until Jan. 5.
The garden is decorated for the holidays with plants and other adornments, and visitors can enjoy musical performances and a gingerbread house display. When the weather cooperates, they can also climb aboard the Garden Express and take a ride along garden paths brightened with lights and decorations.
The botanical garden is at 11030 East Blvd. in Cleveland’s University Circle. It’s open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays, noon to 5 p.m. Sundays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. It’s closed Christmas and New Year’s days.
Admission is $12, or $8 for children ages 3 to 12. Members and younger children are admitted free.
A cinematic Christmas
Movie theaters are loading up with new fare on Christmas Day. Included are The Wolf of Wall Street, the latest collaboration between Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese; The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, with Ben Stiller as director and star; Justin Bieber’s Believe; Sylvester Stallone and Robert DeNiro in Grudge Match; and 47 Ronin with Keanu Reeves.
Want an ugly Christmas sweater for the holidays, but can’t find one at the thrift stores? Make one that looks ghastly, and tastes swell, too.
Angela Mowery of Green wrote in to say that she bought an “Ugly Sweater Cookie Kit” by In the Mix, at Walmart. Kmart and World Market also carry it. A quick search on the Internet will display other places you can buy a similar kit that includes icing, sprinkles and a cookie cutter.
Witches are almost as cool as vampires evidenced by the smashing success of the Wizard of Oz-inspired musical Wicked, the tale of Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West, which runs through Jan. 5 at Playhouse Square in Cleveland. Tickets are $30-$175; call 216-241-6000 or 866-546-1353 or see www.playhousesquare.org.
