Wine in Amish country

Whether you’re a wine expert or just enjoy a taste now and then, the Wine Cellar Tour and Escape Weekend is a fun wine-tasting adventure.

The tour takes you to small and large wineries for samples, and specialists share tips on wine storage and food pairing. Along the way you will learn how Prohibition influenced the Mennonite and Amish community, learn if the Amish still make their own wine, and go on a cellar tour.

The first tour is Saturday; others are on March 2, April 6, May 4, June 1, July 6, Aug. 3, Sept. 7, Oct. 5, Nov. 2 and Dec. 7.

On stage today

The University of Akron Dance Institute features its students in The Snow Maiden at 1 p.m. today. The ballet, based on a Russian fairy tale, will be presented at E.J. Thomas Hall, 198 Hill St., on the UA campus; tickets are $20, $10 for children. Call 330-972-7570 or see www.uaevents.com.

Once more with Hagman

The reboot of Dallas begins its second season on TNT at 9 p.m. Monday with two episodes that are among the last featuring Larry Hagman as J.R. Ewing. Hagman died in November while the new season was in production, and will be in a few more episodes after Monday.

Then, though, J.R. will also die, under circumstances that TVGuide.com recently said will lead to “a multi-episode ‘Who Killed J.R.?’ mystery,” which may remind viewers of the sensational “Who Shot J.R.?” story on the original series in 1980.

Cultivate knowledge

Admission is free, and so is parking in the deck at High and Market streets. To register, call 330-643-9075 or email stdiv@akronlibrary.org.
