Toney Brings Progressive Blues-Rock Music to Canton

UPublish story by Holland Entertainment Management

National touring musician, TONEY, makes his Ohio debut Thursday August 15th at Buzzbin Arts & Music Shop.

The multi talented singer/guitarist is performing music from his 2012 progressive blues-rock album, Born to Live Free, including international radio singles "Empty" and "Standing in the Rain", Toney will also perform brand new music from his upcoming album due later this year.

Toney has been described as having the "soul of the blues..." Being "A cross between John Lee Hooker and Albert King". But, according to him, "I'm much more than a blues cliche'. My sound is progressive and channels influences from country, arena rock, electronic, and world music." Diving into the abyss of blues rooted rock music, delivering a bold hybrid of high energy music peppered with electronic elements, TONEY has also been compared to Jean Luc Ponty and Robert Cray.

On the Road he presents two different shows, TONEY and TONEY ROCKS, that features aspects of his respected talents as a guitarist, singer, writer, and producer. TONEY is an intimate solo performance featuring Toney with nothing more than a worn out telecaster and microphone. This show is the scaled down, more traditional roots/blues/rock show. TONEY ROCKS turns the amp up to 10 and breaks out the progressive blues influenced rock! This show features TONEY's dynamic vocal and guitar performance with the support of epic, hard hitting prerecorded backing tracks from TONEY's independent releases.

Mentored by American folk hero, David Bromberg, Toney is considered an epitome of the do-it-yourself musician. Toney personally records all the music featured in his solo shows and albums. "David (Bromberg), my mentor, alway tells me to 'strip it down and work as much as you can'. But really, me going solo and doing-it-myself came out of necessity." Toney explains. "After trying desperately to get other musicians to understand and commit to the musical vision in my head, I figured I'd just do it myself. That way there's far less compromise. David's advice really just gave me more confidence that I can put the TONEY brand on my back and carry it."

Since 2012, Toney has gained international press and radio play. In support of his current and upcoming album, Toney is performing dates in the mid-Atlantic region as he gears up for a solo US tour kicking off this Fall starting on the west coast.

The Buzzbin Art & Music Shop is located on the corner of 4th & Cleveland Ave NW in the middle of the Canton Arts District. Dedicated to showcasing local, regional, and national original music, Buzzbin Art & Music Shop also features comedy
