The United Way of Summit County Volunteer Center recruits and refers volunteers to area nonprofit organizations and other groups required to incorporate volunteer programs for accreditation status. ACCESS Inc.: Volunteers needed 10 a.m. to noon weekdays the second and third week of each month to provide supervision for homeless children of all ages at the shelter. Minimum age: 16.
Akron Summit Community Action: Volunteers needed between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays to assist with Head Start classroom activities. Minimum age: 18.
Alliance for Healthy Youth: Seeking high school volunteers to participate in C.A.T.S. peer education public speaking opportunities to advocate for healthy lifestyle choices and to avoid risk behaviors. Minimum age: 16; maximum age: 18.
American Red Cross Northern Ohio Blood Services: Volunteers are needed on a flexible schedule, based on blood drive hours, to support local blood drives and donor centers. Minimum age: 15; 10 with adult supervision.
Area Agency on Aging: Volunteer ombudsmen needed to visit residents in long-term care facilities and help address their concerns. Training required. Minimum age: 18.
Autism Society of Ohio Greater Akron Office: Seeking volunteers to assist with the Akron Walks for Autism, a walk and 5K run. Assistance needed 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 8 to assist with registration, and 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 9 to assist with a variety of needs at the event to be held at Lock 3 Park in Akron. Minimum age: 18; 16 with adult supervision.
Barberton Hospice & Palliative Care: Volunteers needed on a flexible basis to provide direct care by visiting patients in their homes, nursing facilities and/or hospitals. Special need for male volunteers as well as for military veterans to support terminally ill veterans. Minimum age: 16.
Battered Women’s Shelter: Health fair and expo volunteers needed to provide resources to the community about agency services, domestic abuse and sexual assault issues. Volunteers also needed to assist with delivery or pickup of donations, newsletters, bulk mailings and special projects. Volunteers may also make calls to local community regarding: fundraising, donations, updating community resources, and other requests made by outreach coordinator. Minimum age: 18.
Church on the Hill: Volunteers needed noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays to assist with general building maintenance (inside/outside), painting, set-up/take-down for events, etc. Minimum age: 16; 12 with adult supervision.
CORE Furniture Bank (Community Outreach and Resources Exchange): Volunteers needed 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays to schedule appointments for families receiving donated furniture. This is an at-home opportunity. Minimum age: 21.
Crown Point Ecology Center: Seeking volunteer to assist with Summer Farm and Science Camp (SFSC) June 11-Aug. 10. Volunteers may choose their activities of preference, which include: children’s gardening assistant, children’s cooking assistant, children’s hiking assistant and general summer camp assistant.
Helping Hands of Summit County: Volunteers needed to deliver furniture, appliances and vehicles to clients’ homes. Must use own transportation or have access to delivery vehicle. Minimum age: 18.
HM Life Opportunity Services: Volunteers needed 5-6:30 p.m. Mondays (Akron location) and 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesdays (Northfield location) to spend time and assist children with crafts, computers and games. Minimum age: 15.
Info Line Inc.: Volunteers needed between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 8 to assist with Project Homeless Connect, a communitywide one-stop shop for delivering services to people experiencing homelessness. Minimum age: 18.
Lake Anna YMCA: Volunteers needed to help with registration, pass out snacks and lead activities for YMCA Healthy Kids Day on from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 28. This is a great done-in-a- day project. Minimum age: 14.
Mature Services Inc.: Volunteers are needed to present nutrition and physical activity lessons at CATCH Kids Club a summer program at Edgewood Village and after school at Cascade Village. Volunteers must first attend a required training sponsored by the Summit County Health District 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 5. Training is free. Minimum age: 21.
OPEN M: Volunteers needed from 8 to 11:15 a.m. on the third Friday of each month to assist with Mountain of Food Giveaway. Minimum age: flexible; younger volunteers accepted with adult supervision.
Rockynol Retirement Community: Volunteer needed to help patients get to beauty shop appointments at the facility. Opportunity is available weekdays. Minimum age: 13.
Ronald McDonald House: Volunteers needed any day of the week every other week to assist with cooking, cleaning, and doing some office work. Minimum age: 16; 14 with adult supervision.
Stewart’s Caring Place: Volunteers needed to assist with annual Hope Walk on in the morning on May 12. Volunteers will assist with registration, cleanup, and T-shirt, food and water distribution. Minimum age: 15
