One dead, four hurt in Twinsburg crash
TWINSBURG: One person was killed Saturday afternoon and four others were injured in a four-vehicle crash on Darrow Road, police said.
No names or crash details were available, a Twinsburg police dispatcher said.
The crash was reported at 2:51 p.m. Fire departments from Twinsburg, Solon, Aurora and Reminderville were at the scene along with an investigative unit from the Summit Metro Crash Response Team, according to a police news release.
Those injured, police said, were a 67-year-old woman flown to Akron City Hospital, a 64-year-old man flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, a 23-year-old man flown to MetroHealth; and a 69-year-old man taken to St. Luke Hospital in Solon.
No additional details were available.
Man dies, passenger
is injured in crash
MANTUA TWP.: A Mantua man was killed and his passenger was injured Friday night in a one-vehicle crash on Mennonite Road, authorities said.
The driver, who died at the scene, was identified by the Ravenna post of the State Highway Patrol as Dennis Hillier, 46.
Kenneth Hillier, 42, was identified as the passenger.
Alcohol was suspected as a factor in the crash, according to the patrol.
Results of a preliminary investigation showed that Dennis Hillier was eastbound on Mennonite in a 1995 Ford F-150 pickup at about 9:25 p.m. when he lost control, drove off the left side of the road and struck several small trees.
The vehicle overturned, and the passenger was ejected. Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.

AKRON: Summit County Executive Russ Pry will host a community outreach program Nov. 8 called ''Government at Your Service'' from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Akron-Summit County Public Library, 60 S. High St.
The program is designed to inform the public of county services, including child care, emergency management, health care, housing and senior citizen programming. Representatives from county offices will be available to answer questions.

BATH TWP.: The Allocations Committee of Bath Volunteers for Service is accepting funding applications from area nonprofit organizations.

Names of Ohio dead
in Iraq will be read
CLINTON: To honor Ohio's military veterans, 28 Gold Star Mothers and Fathers will read the names of 180 Ohioans who have lost their lives in the war in Iraq.
The reading will begin at 3 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Ohio Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park, 8005 Cleveland-Massillon Road, Clinton.

5-year financial plan
HUDSON: The city will hold special workshop meetings to discuss its five-year financial plan.
The meetings will be Nov. 8 and 29, and Dec. 6.
All meetings will be at 6 p.m. at Town Hall, 27 E. Main St.
Hudson district gets
grant for 2 programs
HUDSON: The Hudson school board has accepted a check from the Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation to support new programs at East Woods Elementary.
The initiatives include an after-school program for socially at-risk students.
Funds will also support the creation of the Protecting You, Protecting Me drug education program.
The grant totals $14,040.
Auditor employee passes state course
CANTON: Robbie Davis of the Stark County Auditor's Office completed the Ohio Department of Agriculture/Ohio Weights and Measures Association's Individual Study Course and has become a state-certified weights and measures inspector.
Davis was presented his certification at the association's Fall Technical School in Columbus. The course is designed to provide comprehensive technical training in weights and measures enforcement and administration.

for Yellowstone trip
SUGAR CREEK TWP.: The Wilderness Center is sponsoring a winter trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks in Wyoming.
The trip, to be led by center director Gordon Maupin and naturalists from the Teton Science School, will be Feb. 2-9.
The reservation deadline is Nov. 15. The cost is $2,209 a person (double occupancy).

Drive to benefit
children's hospitals
AKRON:: The Howard Hanna Smythe Cramer real estate service company is raising money through its Children's Free Care Hospital Fund to benefit area children's hospitals.
Each of the company's branches is hosting $5 buffet luncheons or holiday gatherings in November and December. There also will be auctions, a car raffle, prizes, entertainment and gift baskets.
All proceeds will benefit Akron Children's Hospital, Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland and the Children's Hospital at the Cleveland Clinic.
This is the fourth year Howard Hanna Smythe Cramer has sponsored the luncheons. The drive in 2006 raised $643,900.
