The Akron school board ratified contracts Thursday for four unions representing education assistants, maintenance workers, foremen, bus drivers and cafeteria workers.
The employees received essentially the same contract as the secretaries and teachers unions, which include a 3 percent raise in each of the next two years.
All of the district's bargaining units have agreed to participate in a committee of union leaders and administrators who will decide on changes in health-care coverage to save the district $1.5 million next year.
Medical coverage this year will remain the same.
The ratifications conclude the district's current labor negotiations.
The board also approved the hiring of retired Social Studies teacher and Akron mayoral candidate Joe Finley, who will work part time teaching adult basic education.
Finley, who retired earlier this year after 31 years in the Akron Public Schools, taught at Goodyear Middle School for the last 20 years of his career. He will receive $25.90 an hour for a maximum of eight hours a week through June 30.
Finley, also a former Akron city councilman, challenged incumbent Mayor Don Plusquellic in the September Democratic primary.
Plusquellic won with about 53 percent of the vote and was not opposed in the November general election.
