Stark auditor picked as vice president
CANTON: Stark County Auditor Kim Perez was recently elected vice president of the Northeast District of the County Auditors' Association of Ohio.
The district offices work with the state auditor's association to monitor legislation affecting local taxpayers. This year, real-estate tax reform and fuel testing are expected to be important issues on the group's agenda.
Committee seeks
Healy replacement
COLUMBUS: A screening committee is accepting resumes from people interested in filling the Ohio House seat of Rep. William J. Healy II, D-Canton, who is leaving his seat in the legislature to take over as mayor of Canton.
State Rep. George Distel, D-Conneaut, is chairing the committee to recommend a replacement to the 45 members of the House Democratic Caucus. Anyone interested should send resumes to Chief of Staff Andy DiPalma at andy.dipalma@ohr.state.oh.us by the close of business Dec. 10.
Candidate interviews are expected to be completed before the end of the year.
Healy represented the 52nd District, which includes Canton, Canton Township, and parts of Perry and Plain townships.
Post offices offer
extra holiday hours
Three local post offices will have extended holiday hours on the weekends of Dec. 8 and 9 and Dec. 15 and 16.
Akron's main post office, 675 Wolf Ledges Parkway, will stay open until 4 p.m. on Dec. 8 and 15.
The Fairlawn and Chapel Hill branches will offer Sunday hours, in addition to extended Saturday hours.
The Fairlawn office, 2711 West Market St., will be open until 4 p.m. Dec. 8 and 15 and from noon to 4 p.m. on Dec. 9 and 16.
The Chapel Hill office, 2000 Brittain Road, will be open until 6 p.m. Dec. 8 and 15 and from 11 a.m to 5 p.m. Dec. 9 and 16.
The U.S. Postal Service recommends that holiday deliveries to Iraq or Afghanistan be sent by Dec. 4. Mail for other overseas military personnel should be sent by Dec. 11.
Catholic group plans
awards luncheon
AKRON: The Summit Regional Council of Catholic Women will host its annual Christmas awards luncheon at noon Dec. 10 at Guy's Party Centre, 500 E. Waterloo Road.
Sandra Delholm of St. Paul Parish will be named as the Summit region's Woman of the Year, and the Rev. Paul Schindler, pastor of St. Bernard Church, will be honored for his 13 years of spiritual guidance. The council will also honor women from 15 of its affiliate organizations.

Foundation gives
grant for tooth care
BARBERTON: The Aultman Foundation has awarded $3,500 to the Beacon Journal Charity Fund Inc. to be used for orthodontic treatment for children in Stark County from poor families.
The money will be spent within the next 12 months and is restricted to residents of Stark County.
The mission of the Beacon Journal Charity Fund is to provide financial assistance required to furnish orthodontic and other dental care, eyeglasses and vision care for needy and underprivileged children. In the past 10 years, the fund has provided orthodontic treatment for more than 500 children in the Greater Akron area.
