Library plans 'Madden NFL' video game contest

All Summit branches to hold qualifying rounds. Registration required

Beacon Journal staff report

Registration begins Monday for the Akron-Summit County Public Library's third-annual Madden NFL PlayStation 2 video game competition.

The Madden Madness tournament will be Jan. 5-26 at all branch libraries. The top two finalists from each branch will compete at the main library at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 26 until the Madden Madness Super Bowl Champ is crowned. The public is invited to cheer for the participants at the finals.

The grand prize will be a $100 gift card to Best Buy and a pre-Super Bowl pizza party for 40. The second-prize winner will receive a $75 Best Buy gift card.

Participants are eligible at only one branch location. Registration is taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Spots fill up quickly, so library officials recommend registering early.

Participants can register in person or by calling the branch. If all spots are filled, they might be able to register the day of the event and get to play if there are no-shows. Registration deadline is 8:30 p.m. Jan. 9.
