An employee at the Highland Square Video in Akron reported an unusual robbery attempt Wednesday night, police said.
It's the third time the store has been targeted in the past four weeks.
Akron police spokesman Lt. Rick Edwards said an employee of the video store was standing outside smoking a cigarette and talking to an employee of Primo Tanning at about 6:45 p.m. The employee told police a man approached them wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt and scarf covering his face. Acting as if he carried a gun in his pocket, the man ordered the two employees to go inside the store.
When the video store employee turned to enter the store, the tanning store employee tackled the suspect from behind.
In the ensuing scuffle, a gun-shaped bottle of cologne the robber was carrying broke, spilling Stetson cologne all over the suspect.
Gold paint covering the bottom of the handle of the cologne bottle had been covered over with black marker, Edwards said.
The employees held the suspect until police arrived.
Police arrested Michael Kaminski, 41, of West Market Street and charged him with aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon. Kaminski was carrying a knife.
He was booked into the Summit County jail.
