After years of requests by customers, the Summit County clerk's office will begin accepting credit and debit card payments beginning Monday.
The office which handles everything from auto titles to court fines to passports previously has required cash or check, causing an inconvenience for people who prefer making their financial transactions with plastic.
''It's all about customer service and ease of use,'' Clerk of Courts Dan Horrigan said about the change.
A photo ID will be required and the county will charge a 3 percent fee to cover its transaction fees. Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express will be accepted.
The county also plans to roll out online payments later this year, Horrigan added.
Summit County joins about 30 other counties accepting credit cards, including Cuyahoga, Medina, Portage, Stark and Wayne, he said.
For more information about services through the clerk's office, call 330-643-2211 or go online to http://www.cpclerk.co.summit.oh.us/.
