Police seek three who robbed Arby's
AKRON: Police are seeking three men who robbed employees of an Akron fast food restaurant Monday afternoon.
Akron police spokesman Lt. Rick Edwards said that the employees of the Arby's restaurant, 1231 E. Tallmadge Ave., became suspicious when three men came into the store about 3 p.m., walked around for a few minutes and then exited without making a purchase.
Several minutes later the same three men returned to the restaurant, this time armed with handguns, Edwards said.
The men demanded money from the register and told one of the clerks to hand over his wallet. When the employee refused to give the men his wallet, the trio fled the restaurant with an undisclosed amount of money from the register.
The robbers were described as three black males between the ages of 18 and 23.
One robber was short, weighed about 150 pounds and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with metallic markings and dark pants.
Another robber was more than 6 feet tall, about 160 pounds. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.
The other robber was also short in stature, weighed about 140 pounds and was wearing a black coat.
Police are asking that anyone with information call the department at 330-375-2490.

NORTHEAST OHIO
Lawyer asks delay
in corruption trial
CLEVELAND: This week's first American visit by Pope Benedict XVI will energize millions of people, spur protests by some, and a local defense lawyer believes prejudice a Cleveland jury.
Lawyers for Joseph Smith, the former chief financial officer of the Cleveland Catholic Diocese, asked a judge to push back the start of Smith's trial on corruption charges by one week. Jury selection for Smith's trial in U.S. District Court is scheduled to begin Monday, one day after the pope leads Mass at Yankee Stadium.
The event could leave Catholics rapturous, attorney Philip Kushner wrote in a brief filed Monday. If the pope's visit mobilizes the flock, the faithful might show bias for government witnesses including priests and former Bishop Anthony Pilla, Kushner said.
Smith is accused of taking $784,000 in kickbacks and faces a host of corruption charges. His co-defendant Anton Zgoznik was convicted of similar charges in October after a trial.
U.S. District Judge Anne Aldrich is expected to rule on the motion as early as today.
