18-year-old seriously injured in crash

Beacon Journal staff report

BATH TWP.: An 18-year-old Medina County man was in Akron General Medical Center’s intensive care unit Monday after a weekend rollover crash on North Hametown Road, authorities said.

Michael A. Grajzl was alone, driving a 1990 Dodge Ram pickup truck, when the rollover occurred at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday, state Highway Patrol Sgt. Jon DeWitt said.

The crash is under investigation by the Stark-Summit County branch of the patrol, and it was not known Monday, DeWitt said, if Grajzl was wearing a seat belt or if alcohol or drug use was suspected as a factor in the crash.

DeWitt said Grajzl apparently was southbound on North Hametown and drifted off the west side of the roadway. The vehicle came back across the double yellow line, went off the east side of the road and struck a retaining wall, overturning at least once, the sergeant said.

The truck came to rest on all four wheels and Grajzl was trapped inside, DeWitt said.

Bath Township firefighters freed him and took him to Akron General, DeWitt said. He said no witness statements were available.

A hospital spokesperson said Grajzl was in intensive care Monday with serious injuries.
