Police will talk today
about cocaine bust
STOW: Stow police will hold a news conference at 10 a.m. today to talk about a major cocaine bust late Friday night at the Kent State University Airport.
Acting on a tip from federal authorities in Los Angeles, police found 30 one-kilo packages of cocaine on a small plane that landed at the airport after 10 p.m.
Three men were arrested on drug charges and are expected to be arraigned today.
Robert Hawes Jr., Malcolm Sales and Tommy Gonzales were charged with possession of drugs. They are being held at the Summit County Jail, authorities said.
Dinner to benefit
mental health group
FAIRLAWN: The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Summit County is holding its May Dinner and Silent Auction on Wednesday at the Hilton Akron/Fairlawn, 3180 W. Market St.
Doors open at 5:45 p.m.
The keynote speaker will be Charles E. Duvall, who will talk about mental health and brain-injury problems of veterans.
A silent auction, raffle, games and awards will be included in the event.
Tickets are $45 per person.

Democratic Club
to hold fundraiser
TALLMADGE: The Tallmadge Democratic Club will hold its second annual Cinco de Mayo fundraiser from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday.
The event, which will be at the Tallmadge Community Center, 80 Community Road, just east of the circle, will have music and tacos.
U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan will be the keynote speaker. Summit County Executive Russ Pry, Tallmadge Mayor Chris Grimm, Summit County Clerk of Courts Dan Horrigan and other Democratic candidates and officeholders also will attend.
Tickets are $20 per person or $35 for a couple.
