GREEN
City council honors
dispatcher, veteran
GREEN: A Green Central Dispatcher and late Air Force Staff Sgt. Matthew Kuglics were honored Tuesday by city council.
Melissa Kessler was honored for helping deliver a baby via the telephone following a recent botched 911 call. The call for help initially went to Stark County dispatchers instead of Green.
By the time the call was rerouted to Green, Kessler had to give instructions to help the pregnant woman's Uniontown family deliver the baby before emergency workers could arrive in time.
Kuglics, the first Green High School graduate to die in the Iraq War, was recognized for his sacrifice. The proclamation to mark the passing in June will be presented to Kuglics' family during the community's Memorial Day observances.

LAKE TWP.
Trustees set height
for nuisance grass
LAKE TWP.: Township trustees decided Monday that grass that is 10 to 12 inches high is too tall and they will declare it a public nuisance.
If owners fail to cut their grass, the township will have it cut and add the charge to the property's tax bill.
Trustees also hired Joshua Miktarian as a part-time officer for the Uniontown Police Department.
Trustees changed the date of their next meeting to May 27 because of the Memorial Day holiday.

MEDINA COUNTY
Suspected car thief
caught after chase
MEDINA: State Highway Patrol troopers nabbed a suspected car thief, who led them on a chase and stole two cars before being arrested.
Troopers say they attempted to stop a 2001 Acura on Interstate 71 in Westfield Township at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The car was reported stolen from Columbus, and several motorists had complained in 911 calls about the driver's erratic movements.
Instead of stopping for troopers, the driver led them on a 17-mile chase. Eventually, the driver pulled over and fled on foot. Troopers say the same driver stole a second vehicle in Medina Township and attempted to flee.
Jonas Encarnacion, 38, of Columbus, surrendered and was arrested on charges of receiving stolen property and felony fleeing and eluding.
He was being held in the Medina County Jail.

WADSWORTH
Developer asks city
to rezone property
WADSWORTH: Developer Joe Beirne told the city's Planning Commission on Monday that he plans to invest millions in the southeast section of the city.
Beirne's projects include a shopping plaza and 224 senior housing units. He has asked the commission to rezone 4.8 acres at the intersection of Johnson and Silvercreek Roads from residential to commercial as a site for the plaza. Beirne also wants to build the senior units west of that acreage.
At a public hearing on the rezoning issue, neighborhood residents said the plaza is not needed and raised concerns about destroying the peaceful tranquility of the area and that the increased traffic might make the intersection more dangerous.
Beirne said the plaza will be ''neighborhood friendly'' and will enhance the ''quality of life'' in the area.
Both issues were tabled by the commission.
The commission did approve Bill Simmons' request for three apartments above Ann's Pastry Shop at 121 High St.
Also, the commission set a public hearing on a proposal to build a football field at Bird Street Park for May 27 and another one for June 9 on a request by the Sacred Heart Church to build an office building and rectory near the intersection of Broad Street and Humbolt Avenue.
