Here are Memorial Day observances in the Akron area:
TODAY

Akron — 9 a.m., service at VFW Post 3383, 690 W. Waterloo Road.

Akron — 11 a.m., service at Greenlawn Cemetery, 2580 Romig Road, at the Veterans Monument between the two mausoleums. The Kenmore High School band will perform. Firestone Memorial Post 449 will provide color guard and firing squad. Speaker is Summit County Executive Russell Pry.

Alliance — 10 a.m., parade from Linden Avenue and East Main Street to Alliance City Cemetery on West Vine Street; ceremony at 11 a.m.

Apple Creek — 9 a.m., service at Apple Creek Cemetery.

Aurora — 10:15 a.m., parade from the Cinemark Theater on state Route 82, east to state Route 306, south to state Route 43 and north to Aurora Cemetery for service.

Barberton — 10 a.m., service at Lake Anna Park at the Military Honor Roll. Speaker is retired Maj. Ed Lunda, representing Tuskegee Airmen Inc.

Bath Township — Noon, service at the Veterans War Memorial at West Bath and North Cleveland-Massillon roads.

Boston Heights — 8:30 a.m., parade from the fire station to Fairview Park Cemetery on Boston Mills Road.

Brimfield Township — 8 a.m. to noon, pancake breakfast sponsored by Brimfield Lions Club at Faith United Methodist Church on Tallmadge Road in conjunction with the church men's group; 10 a.m., ceremony at Restland Cemetery on state Route 43.

Brunswick — 10 a.m., ceremony at Visintainer Middle School grounds, 1459 Pearl Road, with a parade to Westview Cemetery immediately following, ending with an 11 a.m. service.

Burbank — 11 a.m., parade from Burbank Fire Department to Burbank Cemetery, followed by a service.

Canal Fulton — 1 p.m., parade from Lindsey Concrete, 6845 Erie Ave. N., north on Canal Street to Market Street and ending at City Hall, followed by a ceremony, including a rifle squadron and the Northwest High School band.

Canton — 10 a.m., parade from Tuscarawas Street East and Walnut Avenue Northeast heading west on Tuscarawas to Elgin Avenue Northwest. It turns north on Elgin and finishes at Monument Park for a ceremony at the McKinley Memorial. A 5K race will also take place on the same route starting at 8 a.m.

Clinton — 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., pancake and ham breakfast at the fire station, 7832 Main St. Adults, $4.50; children, $2.50. 11 a.m., parade from Hillside Park on West Comet Road through the center of town, ending at the Clinton Cemetery on Erie Avenue for a service at 11:30 a.m. Free tours of the pre-Civil War Rhoads-Harter House from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Copley Township — 10 a.m., parade from Copley-Fairlawn Middle School, 1531 S. Cleveland-Massillon Road, to Copley Veterans Cemetery, 3788 Copley Road, followed by a service.

Creston — 11 a.m., parade from Creston Middle School, 161 S. Main St., to Maple Mound Cemetery off Erie Street, followed by a ceremony.

Cuyahoga Falls — 9 a.m., parade from State Road Shopping Center at Portage Trail and State Road, traveling east on Portage Trail and north on Fourth Street to Oakwood Drive for an 11 a.m. ceremony at Oakwood Cemetery. A C-130 flyover is scheduled. Guest speaker is Richard S. Stoltz, who received a purple heart during the Vietnam War.

Weather permitting, 480 full-size flags will be flown over Northlawn Cemetery, 4724 State Road, in memory of veterans buried there. VFW Post No. 3294 will place more than 2,200 small flags on the graves. A service will be at 1 p.m.

Dalton — 10 a.m., parade from Dalton High School to Dalton Cemetery.

Doylestown — 9 to 11 a.m., Chippewa High School band and area veterans and military groups march to cemeteries in the village finishing at the Doughboy statue, followed by community lunch at American Legion Post 407 on Black Drive.

Edinburg Township — 11 a.m., parade from Edinburg United Church and to Edinburg Cemetery, followed by a service. The Eleanor McConnell Chapel will be dedicated.

Fairlawn — 11 a.m., service at Memorial Monument in Bicentennial Park across from City Hall, 3482 S. Smith Road.

Garrettsville — 9 a.m., parade from Baptist Cemetery on Maple Avenue to Park Cemetery on Center Street, followed by a service.

Granger Township — 9 a.m., parade from Highland Middle School, 3880 Ridge Road, to Fairview Cemetery on Wilbur Road, followed by a service.

Green — 10:30 a.m. parade from Green High School, 1474 Boettler Road, marching east on Boettler, south on Massillon Road and west on Steese Road to Green Intermediate School, followed by ceremony at the John Torok Community Center, 4224 Massillon Road. A classic car show will follow. Picnic food will be provided.

Hinckley Township — 9 a.m., parade from Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 1088 Ridge Road, to Town Hall and Brongers Park at Ridge Road and state Route 303, followed by a ceremony.

Hiram — 11:30 a.m., parade from the post office on Hayden Street to Fairview Cemetery on state Route 82, followed by a service.

Hudson — 11 a.m., parade from Milford Drive to St. Mary's Markillie Cemetery, followed by service.

Kent — 10 a.m., parade from East Main and Depeyster streets to the Main Street bridge, followed by service and gun salute. Parade will then march to Standing Rock Cemetery on Mantua Street for another ceremony.

Lakemore — 1 p.m., parade from Springfield High School, 2966 Sanitarium Road, to the triangle at Park and Lake roads, followed by a service.

Lodi — 9 a.m., parade from American Legion Post 523, 120 Bank St., through the center of town to Woodlawn Cemetery flag area, followed by a service.

Louisville — 10 a.m., service at City Hall, 215 S. Mill St.

Mantua Township — 11 a.m., parade from Old Village School to Village Cemetery. The parade then continues from the Civic Center and ends at West Lawn Cemetery.

Mantua Village — 9:30 a.m., parade from Crestwood High School to Mantua Village Cemetery.

Marlboro Township — 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. lunch at the fire station at Edison Street and Marlboro Avenue; 1 p.m., parade from the square, marching north on Marlboro Avenue to Marlboro Cemetery, where there will be a service at 2 p.m. Guest speaker is Marine Lt. Col. John Reed.

Marshallville — 10 a.m., parade from the American Legion on South Main Street to Memory Park.

Massillon — 8:30 a.m., service at Veterans Memorial Park; 9:30 a.m., parade from Lincoln Way East and First Street Southeast to Erie Street South and ending at Massillon Cemetery, followed by another service.

Medina — 10 a.m., parade from Medina County Courthouse on the square to Spring Grove Cemetery, followed by a ceremony.

Mogadore — 10 a.m., parade from James Street and South Cleveland Avenue, marching north on state Route 532 to Mogadore Road and then west to Greenwood Cemetery for a 10:30 a.m. ceremony. Guest speaker is VFW State Commander Roger Frye. 8 a.m. to noon, pancake breakfast at Mogadore Christian Church, 106 S. Cleveland Ave; $5 for adults and $3 for age 12 and under.

Navarre — 1 p.m., parade from Ohio Street to East Union Lawn Cemetery.

New Franklin — 10 a.m., parade from Grace Bible Church, 5781 Manchester Road, to Manchester Cemetery, 1030 W. Nimisila Road, followed by a service.

North Canton — 9 a.m., parade from North Stadium parking lot on Seventh Street proceeding south on Main Street to Bitzer Park, followed by a ceremony.

Northfield Center Township — 10 a.m., parade St. Barnabas Church, 9451 Brandywine Road, heading north on Olde Eight Road to the Northfield-Macedonia Cemetery, followed by a service.

Norton — 11 a.m., ceremony conducted by Loyal Oak VFW Post 4466 at Williams Memorial Park at Greenwich and Cleveland-Massillon roads.

Orrville — 9:15 a.m., parade from Orrville Public Library, 315 N. Main St., marching west on Church to Main Street, south to Market Street, west on Market to Crown Hill Road, and north to Crown Hill Cemetery for a service.

Peninsula — 11 a.m., parade from Boston Township Hall, 1775 Main St., to Cedar Grove Cemetery, followed by a service. Another ceremony will follow at Boston Cemetery on Main Street in Boston Township.

Randolph Township — 10 a.m., parade from Hillside Cemetery to Town Hall.

Ravenna — 10 a.m., parade from Ravenna High School, proceeding west on Main Street to Chestnut Street, ending with a service at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Rittman — 10:30 a.m., parade from Main and Erie streets to Sunset Street and Main Street, followed by a ceremony at Rittman Cemetery.

Seville — 1 p.m., service at First Baptist Church, followed by a parade from Seville Elementary School, 24 E. Main St., heading west on Market Street, north on Milton Street and east on Main Street to Mount Hill Cemetery.

 

Shreve — 9:30 a.m., parade from Shreve Elementary School, 598 N. Market St., to Scheck IGA; 10:30 a.m., service at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Smithville — 8:30 a.m., parade from Smithville Elementary School to Smithville High School field house, followed by a service.

Spencer — 9 a.m., parade from the Old School on Washington Street to Spencer Cemetery, followed by a service.

Suffield Township — 8 a.m. to noon, Boy Scout-sponsored pancake breakfast at Town Hall; 2 p.m., parade from Congress Lake Road and Old Waterloo Road, marching through downtown to Suffield Elementary School.

Tallmadge — 8 a.m., pancake breakfast at the Community Center sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce; 10 a.m., parade from Our Lady of Victory Church on North Avenue to Tallmadge Cemetery, followed by a ceremony. The Tallmadge Historical Society invites the public to visit the Old Town Hall and museum on the Circle and Schenkengerger House at 35 Southwest Ave. from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. There is no admission charge.

Twinsburg — 10:30 a.m., parade from Twinsburg High School, 10084 Ravenna Road, to Veterans Monument on the square, followed by a service. Includes a military fly-by.

Uniontown — 1:30 p.m., program honoring four World War II veterans, two still living, at the All Veterans Memorial in Uniontown Community Park. The ceremony will be conducted by the Honor Guard from McKinley Detachment 277 Marine Corps League in Canton.

Valley City — 11 a.m., parade from Liverpool Community Center on West River Road, marching along Center Road (state Route 303) to the VFW parking lot, followed by a program and lunch.

Wadsworth — 10:30 a.m., parade from the square on Main Street to St. Mark's Church for the tolling of the bell. It then proceeds to Woodlawn Cemetery for a service at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier. In case of rain, ceremony will be in O.J. Work Auditorium at 11 a.m.

Westfield Center — 11 a.m., parade from Smucker Drive to Westfield Center Cemetery, followed by a service.

Windham — Noon, parade from South Main Street and Bauer Avenue to Windham Township Cemetery, followed by a service.

Wooster — 9 a.m., parade from Wayne County Fairgrounds, heading east on West Liberty Street to the Public Square, then south on Market Street to Madison Hill and the overpass bridge. Services follow at Wooster Cemetery, with speaker U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Tod Carmony. A second service will be held at 11 a.m. at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
