No one injured in West Salem blaze. Cause still unknown
Published on Monday, Jul 07, 2008
Beacon Journal staff report
The state fire marshal is investigating a fire Saturday night at Phantom Fireworks in Wayne County's Congress Township, said West Salem Mayor Janet Kenyon.
''Thank goodness'' nobody was hurt, Kenyon said.
The cause of the fire and a damage estimate were not known as of Sunday afternoon, she said.
Along with the Town and Country Fire Department, which serves an area in Wayne, Medina and Ashland counties, fire departments from Lodi, New Pittsburg, Canaan and Canaan Township responded to the fire, Kenyon said.
The fire destroyed two of 14 trailers at the facility at 14700 Rickel Road, said Judy Smith, who identified herself as a key person with Phantom Fireworks.
She said one of the trailers was full of damaged materials and the other was stored with Class C consumer fireworks.
''There were no customers'' at the time of the fire, which started after 9 p.m. Saturday, she said.
Firefighters contained the blaze right away, she said.
