Sister to testify against former president indicted in Summit mortgage fraud case

The sister of former Evergreen Corp. President David Willan has accepted a plea deal in which she will testify against her brother and avoid prison.
Sandy Langer, 51, of Akron, who worked in the Evergreen companies, pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of unlicensed sale of securities and one count of securities fraud.
She made the plea in Summit County Common Pleas Court to visiting Judge James E. Murphy.
In exchange for the plea, Langer received two years of probation and gave assurances she will testify against Willan.
Prosecutors dismissed the remainder of a 26-count indictment against Langer.
''I think when a person is charged with 26 serious felony counts and receives 24 months of probation, it says all you need to hear,'' said Langer's attorney, Andrew Kinder.
The case has caused emotional and financial hardship for Langer, Kinder said. She is currently unemployed.
Asked about the prospect of testifying against her brother, Kinder said, ''She is willing to testify truthfully.''
Willan, 37, who is out of jail on bond, is charged in a Summit County indictment alleging widespread Akron-area mortgage fraud. He is facing a possible prison term of 54 to 139 years.
The indictments last December against Willan and six others involved in the case were part of a two-year investigation of allegedly predatory borrowing and securities scams that cost investors, homeowners and lenders at least $16 million.
