Buy box of food at church

24 pounds of meat, veggies, fruit for $30; program open to all

By Colette M. Jenkins
Beacon Journal religion writer

Trinity United Church of Christ is offering a discount food program to help families cope with rising costs.

The program, Great Food for All, provides a basic food box with about 24 pounds of food for $30. The box has meat, vegetables and fruit with a retail value of $50 or more. Special value packs, ranging in price from $12 to $18, also are available.

Prepaid orders must be made by mid-month and the food is usually distributed on the fourth Saturday of the month. Orders for the following month can be placed when customers pick up their boxes. There is no limit to the number of boxes that can be ordered and the program is available to people in all income levels.

Each month's menu is different. The August box includes a pound of barbecue glazed chicken wings; a two-pound rack of ribs; chicken strips; beef strips; a Banquet frozen entree; green beans; chopped spinach; roasted red-skin potatoes; yeast rolls; sliced apples; small pizzas and a dessert item.

Trinity is at 915 N. Main St. in Akron. For more information, call David Brown at 330-376-7186 or GreatFoodTUCC@aol.com.
