Minn. governor stumps in area for McCain

Beacon Journal staff report

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, a possible vice presidential candidate for Sen. John McCain, was the speaker at the Summit County Republican Party's finance dinner Monday evening.

He also made two other stops in the Akron-Canton area. Pawlenty presented McCain's new Ohio sportsmen coalition at the Canton McKinley Rifle & Pistol Club, 5527 Tyro St. N.E, Canton, on Monday afternoon.

The coalition will emphasize McCain's dedication to protecting gun ownership and promoting hunting and shooting traditions, according to the campaign.

He also stopped at Revere High School, 3420 Everett Road, Richfield, to meet with volunteers from the Parish & Palazzo Foundation. Two recent graduates started the foundation to provide supplies to each student at Akron's Findley Elementary at the start of the school year.

The GOP's evening event marked the local party's major fundraising effort for the November election.
