Motorist killed
when car hits tree
AKRON: A 34-year-old man was killed in a one-car accident on the city's southeast side.
The man's identity was being withheld until his family could be notified.
The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office said the driver was speeding when he went off the road and hit a tree at George Washington and Springfield Lake boulevards about 9 p.m. Friday. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:54 p.m.
The medical examiner's office and Akron police were investigating.
Account established
for victim of crash
CANAAN TWP.: An account has been set up at FirstMerit Bank for Richard Hubbard III, 23, to help offset medical costs.
Hubbard was involved in a traffic accident Aug. 17 on Sterling Road in Canaan Township and remains in the intensive care unit at Akron City Hospital. He is employed by JLG in Orrville and is a former Dalton firefighter.
Donations can be made at any FirstMerit branch.
New high school
to be dedicated
TALLMADGE: A dedication ceremony for the new $30.5 million Tallmadge High School will be at 2 p.m. today.
Tours of the building at 140 N. Munroe Road will be offered after the ceremony.
Railroad crossing
to close Tuesday
AKRON: The railroad crossing at Summit Street north of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday while a broken rail is replaced.
Detour using Furnace and Howard streets and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
