CALENDAR
• Sept. 6 — NEOCATS will hold an all-night catfish tournament at Salt Fork Lake. Registration begins at 7 p.m. at the North Salem Boat Ramp on Plainfield Road. The entry fee is $40 per team. Information: www.neocats.bravehost.com or call 330-948-2018.
• Sept. 8 — The Summit Sportsman's Association meets on the second Monday of the month from September through June at the Polish American Club on Dan Street at Glenwood Avenue in Akron. The club is a mixture of hunters and fishermen. Meetings start at 7:30 p.m. Guests are welcome. Information: 330-753-4453.
• Sept. 11 — The Goodyear Hunting & Fishing Club, 1221 Wingfoot Lake Road in Suffield Township, holds its meetings the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. New members are welcome. Contact: Bob Schilling, 330-882-4939.
SHOOTS
• Sunday — Streetsboro Sportsman Association will host Sunday morning turkey shoots through Nov. 23. Each shoot is 10 a.m. to noon. The shot closest to the center can win cash, meat and prizes. Refreshments available. Shoots are on Nicodemus Road in Shalersville, Twp., one mile south of state Route 303. Information: 330-626-2115.
• Monday — Lenape Trails Sportsman's Club in Mount Eaton, will hold a 3-D archery shoot from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Entry fee is $8. For directions or information, call 330-695-9826.
• Tuesday — The Portage-Summit Field and Stream Club, 8504 State Route 224 in Deerfield Township, hosts trapshoots every Tuesday through Oct. 30. Shoots are from 6 to 9 p.m. and are open to the public. Information: David Bencze, 330-650-3666.
• Tuesday — The North Lawrence Fish and Game Club, 15325 Lawmont St., Lawrence Township, hosts trapshooting open to the public. Shoots are 6 to 9:30 p.m. Information: 330-837-2008 or www.nlfg.org.
• Wednesday — Trapshoots at North Industry Sportsmen's Club, 7825 Beth Ave. S.W., Bethlehem Township, 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.
• Sept. 6 — Copley Trap Range, 1665 Jacoby Road, Copley Township, will host a fall trapshooting league through Nov. 1. The league format is set-up for novice and experienced shooters. You do not have to have a team to be able to participate. For additional info, call Brad Harker at 330-855-1174.
• Sept. 12 — Lenape Trails Sportsman's Club in Mount Eaton hosts trapshoots open to the public. Similar events: Sept. 26, Oct. 10 and 24, and Nov. 7 and 21. Information: 330-695-9826.
• Sept. 13 — Copley Trap Range, 1665 Jacoby Road, Copley Township, has an ATA registered shoot. Events are $18 per 100 targets. Clubhouse opens at 8:30 a.m.; shoot begins at 10 a.m. Contact: Brad Harker at 330-855-1174.
• Sept. 13-14 — Beaver Creek Sportsman Club, 1480 Washingtonville Road, Washingtonville, will host a 3-D archery target shoot the second Saturday and second Sunday of each month through September. All ages and equipment welcome. The kitchen is open for Sunday shoots. Information: 330-427-1603.
HUNTER ED
Those purchasing an Ohio hunting license for the first time must complete the hunter education course. Additionally, Ohio hunters seeking licenses in other states may be required to show proof that they completed such a course. No charge. Information: 800-WILDLIFE.
• Summit County — There will be a hunter education safety class Sept. 13 and 14 at The Marksman, 3017 Barber Road, Norton. Each class is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The classes are free. Call 800-WILDLIFE to reserve a seat. Registration deadline is Sept. 6.
• Portage County — Portage-Summit Field and Stream Club is hosting a hunter education course Sept. 27 and 28, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. both days. The Club is on the south side of U.S. 224, 1.5 miles west of Deerfield traffic circle, or 0.7 mile east of the U.S. 224 and state Route 225 intersection. The course is free and interested Students are asked to register by calling 800-WILDLIFE. Students are asked to bring a lunch.
• Stark County — A hunter education class will be held Oct. 6, 7, 13 and 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the North Industry Christian Church, 4235 45th Street S.W., Perry Township. Attendance at each session is necessary to complete the course. This seminar is free. To register, call 800-WILDLIFE.
