We are expanding the second section of the Beacon Journal to present more of our local content in one place. The B section also will get a new name Community to reflect the local news, features and information that will be found there.
Community will be a one-stop supermarket for a variety of information. While local news will continue to anchor the section, business, health and religion articles may also be found in the B section. Community also will include our popular This Place This Time history story on Mondays, along with coverage of the Scene (area party coverage) and local music reviews.
Some complained when we put the Monday-Friday business pages behind the sports section. We are moving those pages to the Community section. We will place the comics pages and the daily TV grid in Community as well.
Finally, the Ohio Lottery will find a daily spot in the new B section.
OTHER CHANGES TO NOTE
Movie reviews and the weekly Mailbag will move to Enjoy on Thursdays. The people column will be published on Wednesdays and Saturdays in the features sections.
Page A2 will be used to present local stories that merit a place toward the front of the Beacon Journal. This space also may be used for display of local stories that start on the front page and require some special inside presentation. These changes will be effective Monday.
The Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday features sections are being eliminated as we move the best of that content to the daily Community section and Thursday's Enjoy. We are making that change because it is critical that we use our newsprint in the best way possible as that expense rises, while keeping important local articles.
The Beacon Journal remains committed to providing a comprehensive local news report for Akron and its surrounding communities.

Newspapers are dying out. Even good ones are struggling. The ABJ is not a good one.
