Arrest warrant issued in James Foundation incident

By Kathy Antoniotti
Beacon Journal staff writer

An arrest warrant has been issued for DeAndre Forney, a former Akron City Council candidate, charging theft in a June 30 incident involving the LeBron James Family Foundation.

Akron police Lt. Rick Edwards said Monday that Forney, 25, is accused of posing as an employee of the foundation and putting it $12,818 in debt.

The money was owed to vendors and others for what Forney said was a LeBron James Family Foundation event at Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, Edwards said.

The complaint was filed by Jacquelyn Nance, director of the foundation, and the warrant was issued Sept. 4, Edwards said.

Forney lost the Democratic primary for the Ward 4 council seat in September by three votes to the incumbent, Renee Greene.
