Attack investigated
AKRON: Police are still investigating the assault of a teacher at Ellet High School Thursday morning.
Police said a 17-year-old special education student ran up behind the 41-year-old educator and knocked her to the floor of the gymnasium. The teacher struck her head on the floor and was taken to Akron City Hospital.
Walk is Saturday
AKRON: The Cleveland Area Pulmonary Hypertension Support Group is working with the Cleveland Clinic to host a six-minute charity walk Saturday. It will begin at 11 a.m. at the Sand Run Metro Park's Wadsworth Shelter, 1400 Sand Run Road.
The walk will raise money for pulmonary hypertension, a chronic condition characterized by continuous high blood pressure in the pulmonary artery leading to the lungs. Symptoms can include shortness of breath, chest pain, swelling and fatigue.
Registration for the event is $10 per individual or $25 per family. To register, send a check and the shirt sizes of all in your group to one of these two addresses:

Mum Fest to bloom
BARBERTON: The 18th annual Mum Fest at Lake Anna Park on Sept. 20-21 will display 20,000 chrysanthemums in a rainbow of color.
The festival will also include free family entertainment, historic views of Barberton, arts and crafts and gardening tips.
There will be water ski shows, featuring the Chippewa Lake Water Ski Show Team, at noon, 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Saturday and noon and 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
Other activities include canoe races, strolling entertainers, the ETC Children's Choir, the University of Akron Steel Drum Band, food vendors, sand sculpting and mural painting.
The new Lake Anna YMCA will be open for tours from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. At 1 p.m. Saturday, the public is invited to the unveiling of a monument in memory of late Barberton High School basketball coach K. Jack Greynolds.

BRIMFIELD TWP.: State Rep. Stephen Dyer, D-Green, will host a ''watch party'' for Gov. Ted Strickland's Conversation on Education at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Field High School, 2900 State Route 43.
The public is invited to view a video link of the event televised from Mansfield. Field Superintendent David Brobeck will attend. A discussion of educational issues will follow.

GREEN: A community meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Green Community Center at 4224 Massillon Road will discuss a proposed 132-unit apartment complex on Moore Road.
WADSWORTH
Council seat filled
WADSWORTH: Republican James Riley was elected unanimously Saturday to an at-large vacancy on City Council.
Wadsworth representatives on the Medina County Central Committee chose Riley from three candidates seeking to succeed Tom Baldwin, who resigned Sept. 1 because he moved out of the city. The term runs through 2009.
Riley retired from the Akron Police Department in 1996 after more than 27 years. He also volunteered for more than 15 years with the Wadsworth Fire Department.

Fundraiser for Cole
PENINSULA: Randy Cole, the Republican candidate for the 41st Ohio House seat, will hold a fundraiser from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at Fisher's Cafe, 1607 Main St.

Group to talk issues
CUYAHOGA FALLS: Progressive Democrats of America of Ohio will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hunters Lake clubhouse, 1207 Hunters Lake Drive W.
