AkronMan held in slayings
AKRON: An Akron man has been jailed on two counts of aggravated murder and aggravated robbery in two fatal shootings, police said.
Lance I. Brown, 30, of Manchester Road, was arrested Saturday in the shooting deaths of a man outside a West Akron store in August and a man found dead last week outside a vacant house.
In late August, police had issued a warrant for the arrest of Brown in the Aug. 16 death of Gary Bolar, 30, of Madison Avenue, Akron, who was shot in the head while sitting in a car outside the Delia Market, 964 Delia Ave.
The shooting was ''probably over drugs,'' Lt. Rick Edwards said.
Acting on a tip, police said, officers went to a house on Royal Place in North Akron about 5 p.m. Saturday and, after a two-hour standoff, entered the home.
Authorities said they found Brown in a basement cubbyhole.
Police said that after his arrest in the slaying of Bolar, Brown admitted shooting Germaine Harris, 36, of Dayton Street in Akron, during a robbery.
Police said Brown fired a gun several times while trying to rob two men of drugs and money, fatally shooting Harris in the chest.
Police found Harris' body Friday morning outside a vacant house on Newton Place.
Brown is being held in the Summit County Jail.
Also arrested at the Royal Place address was Andrea Blair, 51, who was charged with obstructing justice and illegally having weapons.
4 break into home
AKRON: A Brown Street home was broken into early Sunday by four men armed with handguns.
Akron police say the men ordered the occupants of the house to get on the floor while they took televisions, a video game system, computers, cell phones and cash.
The four were described as black men between the ages of 18 and 22 years old.
They wore blue jeans and black T-shirts, and red bandanas covered their faces.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 330-375-2490.

BATH TWP.
4th sergeant added
BATH TWP.: Bath Township trustees voted Wednesday to approve a recommendation by Police Chief Michael McNeely to add a fourth sergeant's position in the police department.
Trustees said the addition coincides with McNeely's overview of the department and the roles of officers in the department.
Trustees also approved the promotion of officer Kevin Moats to the sergeant's post, effective Sept. 24.
McNeely said Moats would supervise the communications section and LEADS, as well as be the department's new criminal intelligence analyst. That role would require Moats to work with the National Criminal Intelligence Sharing Plan, reviewing and then relaying to departmental officers information that could deter criminal acts.
Moats will be sworn at 4 p.m. Sept. 24.

Power restored
AKRON: FirstEnergy Corp. crews have restored power to all Northeast Ohio customers.
FirstEnergy spokesman Mark Durbin said electricity was restored to most customers by about 6 p.m. Sunday.
Durbin said the remaining repairs were ''labor intensive,'' requiring a few hours of work to restore power to one or two customers in the Alliance-Salem area.
American Electric Power, which also has customers in Stark County, said that some scattered outages remain throughout the state. More than 99 percent of the nearly 700,000 affected AEP customers now have power, the company said.
A storm Sept. 14 knocked out power to more than 2 million utility customers statewide as high winds — remnants of Hurricane Ike — reached more than 75 mph.
The utility companies have said the work to restore power was slow because the widespread high winds were unprecedented for the region.

The board has instituted $2.1 million in cuts, after the failure of two levy attempts this year. A deficit of $3.4 million is projected for 2011 and the district has placed a 6.9-mill, five-year levy on the Nov. 4 ballot.

WADSWORTH
Church office plan delayed
WADSWORTH: The Wadsworth Planning Commission on Monday tabled a proposal by Sacred Heart Church to construct an office building near Humbolt and Broad streets. The church has indicated that the plan will be revised to eliminate a driveway to Boyer Street.

Opponents raised concerns about increased traffic and possible hazards if the driveway were built.
In other business, planning Director Jeff Kaiser is expected to submit to the commission data on short-term adult day-care centers for possible future legislation.
