Two 2009 art trips planned for Italy
Akron artist Dino Massaroni has planned two trips to Italy in 2009: a mid-September tour of the Italian Riviera; and a mid-June trip to the hill town of Cortona in Tuscany. These are basically painting and art-lovers getaways, and those who sign up before Oct. 31 will save $200 per person. Waiting to sign up between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31 still saves $150 per person.
The Cortona in Tuscany trip, which runs from June 20 to 27, is $2,749 per person; the Italian Riviera trip, from Sept. 12 to 19, costs $2,999 per person. Neither price includes airfare.

ArtsinStark seeks grant applications
ArtsinStark, the Stark County Arts Council, is making $150,000 available for art projects throughout the county. The deadline to apply for grants is Nov. 7.
ArtsinStark said this will be the only round of special project grants made available this year. Stark County nonprofit organizations that propose arts projects are being asked to focus on projects that grow the arts ''to create smarter kids, new jobs and healthier communities.''
For projects to be considered, they must be completed within the next calendar year — Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2009 — and fall into one of two focus areas: SmArts and Innovation.
SmArts grants are awarded only to local schools; all schools must apply in this category.
Innovation is designed to fund creative projects that break new ground, according to the county grants funding agency, adding that it can be a project new to Stark County or new to a demographic not normally served by the organization.
Detailed information about the focus areas is included in the guidelines, which will become available along with grant application forms on Monday at http://www.artsinstark.com/ (click on the ''Grant Money'' page).

City Art planning exhibition schedule
City Art Project, 2091 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, is setting up its 2009 exhibition schedule for both its Cuyahoga Falls location and director Todd Volkmer's original spot in downtown Akron, Red Light Gallery, 111 N. Main St.
Area artists who want to exhibit at either gallery in 2009 should submit five to eight JPEG images or a link to their Web site via e-mail to cityart@toddv.com for review.
Artists who want to be reviewed in person should contact Rebecca at 330-322-7899 to make an appointment.
