The Friends of Akron Children's Hospital will hold its October luncheon at Guy's Party Centre, 500 E. Waterloo Road, Akron. Buffet-style luncheon is $13. Call Vicki Parisi at 330-543-3825.
Wednesday
Mogadore Fire Department will hold a Soup & Sandwich Lunch 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Community Center, 3857 Mogadore Road. Ham and turkey sandwiches, pies, take-out available. Event benefits the Mogadore Historical Society.
A benefit concert featuring the Scintas will be held at 8 p.m. at Tangier, 532 W. Market St., Akron. Funds raised will benefit Down syndrome research and education at Akron Children's Hospital. For ticket information, call 330-376-7171.

Silver Lake Country Club is waving cart fees with its Carts 4 Cans campaign to raise donations for the Akron-Canton Foodbank. Golfers can elect to donate canned goods or make a financial donation each time they use the 120-acre course. Guest fees also will be reduced to enable more donors to support the campaign. Results
The Akron Phi Kappa Tau graduate council recently raised $12,000 at a golf outing to benefit Flying Horse Farms Camp for children with serious Illnesses. The camp is outside Mount Gilead and is to open in 2010.
