Tim Baley, a musical savant, will perform a farewell concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Johnson Center at Malone University, 2600 Cleveland Ave. NW, Canton.
The concert pianist is leaving his North Canton home in December to move to Anaheim, Calif., where he will rejoin the Hi-Hopes at Hope University, a fine arts day program for adults with developmental disabilities. When Baley was born in June 1952 in Canton, forceps damaged the lower left lobe of his brain. He was diagnosed with a mild mental handicap and light cerebral palsy.
Because visual problems have kept Baley from learning to read music, he plays solely by ear.
Baley has played at the White House and the Kennedy Center. He has toured Europe and played piano with Liberace. He won a gold medal at the International Piano Paralympics Festival in 2005 in Japan and has appeared on Sally Jessy Raphael, Good Morning America, Geraldo, Inside Edition, Sonja Live, L.A. Magazine and the 700 Club.
Sunday's concert is free but an offering will be taken.
