Fund for barbers
AKRON: A fund has been established to benefit two barbers who were wounded by gunfire during what police say was an aborted robbery.
Kevin A. Brown, 33, of Orlando Avenue, the owner of the KB Barber Shop & Style at 1056 Diagonal Road, and another barber, Scott J. Arrington, 39, of Amelia Avenue, were shot during a gunfight that broke out when Leon Walker, 22, entered the shop carrying a handgun and demanded money, according to reports.
Police say Walker and someone in the crowded shop began firing at each other. Walker was fatally wounded.
The two barbers, and a customer, Derek L. Davis, 34, of East Avenue, who also was shot, are expected to recover.
Paul Ware, a longtime customer of the shop, which is a favorite of Cleveland Cavs star LeBron James, said the fund was established in the name of the shop at FirstMerit Bank. Donations can be made at any branch.

Help for victim
AKRON: Friends of a disabled woman who was mugged on Dayton Street Nov. 15 have established a fund for her at FirstMerit Bank.
Catherine Robinson said her purse, containing $943, medications and about 25 letters from her late husband, was stolen when a robber drew a gun on her and dragged her down steps as she was going to visit a friend.
BARBERTON
Child abuse alleged
BARBERTON: A 38-year-old West Hopocan Avenue man, accused of leaving his children alone in a car while he got a lap dance in a strip club Wednesday, faces child-abuse charges.
Keith Dodson was summoned to Barberton Municipal Court on two counts of child endangering, both misdemeanors. If convicted, he faces up to six months in jail on each count.
Police were called to Francois's Lounge, 657 Norton Ave., about 10 p.m. Wednesday. According to reports, they found a 2-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy in a car in the parking lot.
Officers said they located Dodson in the VIP room of the strip club, getting a lap dance.
Dodson told police he was in the club for only a few minutes, but witnesses in the club told police Dodson had been there about an hour. They said Dodson would get a lap dance or two, go to the parking lot, then return to the club.
One dancer told police that Dodson spent about 30 minutes with her.
The children were taken into custody, then released to an adult.

STOW
Panel disbanded
STOW: The Stow-Munroe Falls school board voted this week to disband the district's finance committee in the wake of levy failures in March, August and this month.
Dick Spangler, board vice president, said plans call for creating a more broad-based ''citizen coalition'' that would have more members than the nine permitted under the former committee's rules.
Finance committee member Kevin Clark was disappointed in the board's decision. Clark said the district can't afford the cost of existing contracts with employees and changes are needed.
Board President Denny Mariola said the contracts still have two years to run and the board doesn't think renegotiation is a reasonable possibility.
