Services Saturday in Hudson for officer

By Jim Carney
Beacon Journal staff writer

Calling hours for Boston Heights police officer Jarod M. Dean will be Thursday and Friday in Independence.

A funeral Mass will be held Saturday in his hometown of Hudson.

Dean, 24, a part-time officer, was killed Monday morning when he was struck by a truck on state Route 8 while cleaning debris from an earlier accident.

John Fortuna of Fortuna Funeral Home & Cremation Service said calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at 7076 Brecksville Road.

A brief service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed by a 11:30 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Mary Church, 340 N. Main St., Hudson, Fortuna said.

After the Mass, Dean will be buried at Calvary Cemetery, 10000 Miles Ave., Cleveland, Fortuna said.

Dean was a former police officer in both Waynesburg and Windham. His brother, John Dean, is a Hudson police officer.

The Summit County Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death was multiple blunt-force injuries.

A Garfield Heights man drove the 2003 Isuzu box truck that struck Dean about 5:30 a.m. Monday near Boston Mills Road. No charges have been filed.

The crash remains under investigation, the State Highway Patrol said.

In addition to his brother, Dean is survived by parents Thomas and Marie Dean, as well as brother Dean Rivera and sister Carey Ceculski.

Memorial donations can be made at any FirstMerit Bank in the name of Jarod M. Dean.
