Man dies in crash
SUGAR CREEK TWP.: A Beach City man died in a one-car crash Saturday morning in southwestern Stark County.
Dustin Skelly, 29, was driving south on Justus Avenue Southwest when the vehicle went off the left side of the roadway, said the State Highway Patrol.
Authorities said Skelly then overcorrected and drove off the right side of the roadway, striking a tree.
Skelly was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash occurred at 2:47 a.m.

Honors for ABJ trio
KENT: Three Beacon Journal photographers won awards in the Ohio News Photographers Association's 58th annual news photography contest judged Friday and Saturday at Kent State University.
Phil Masturzo won second-place and third-place awards for product illustrations. He also took third place in sports photography.
Ed Suba Jr. got honorable mentions in the product illustration category and the Campaign 2008 category.
Mike Cardew won an honorable mention in the Campaign 2008 category.
The Beacon Journal took a third-place in the large paper division for picture usage.

Celebrate herons
BATH TWP.: The second Blue Heron Day Celebration: Breakfast With the Birds will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Old Trail School, 2315 Ira Road.
The event is sponsored by the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Association and the school.
A pancake breakfast will be served until noon.
There also will be stations with crafts, photos and a puppet show, so visitors can learn about the herons and their habitat.
The Medina Raptor Center will have a live bird display.
Participants also can take a short hike to the heron nests off West Bath Road in Akron. Participants also can visit the heronry by taking a complimentary shuttle.
Tickets at the door are $8 for adults and $6 for children 6 to 12 years old. Children 5 or younger are free. Call 800-642-3297, ext. 100, for more information.
BRECKSVILLE
Regula gets award
BRECKSVILLE.: Retired U.S. Rep. Ralph Regula of Navarre was honored Friday by the Cuyahoga Valley Regional Council of Governments and the Cuyahoga Valley Communities Council.
The Republican from Stark County was given the Peter H. Henderson Lifetime Achieve-ment Medal for Outstanding Public Service.
Runners-up for the award were Marilyn and Dewey Hansen of Peninsula.
The John F. Seiberling Award for Regional Cooperation and Resourceful Innovation went to Cleveland Metroparks.
The runner-up was the Summit County Planning Department.

Mardi Gras event
AKRON: Daniel Horrigan, Summit County clerk of courts, will host his third annual Mardi Gras Fundraiser from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Todaro's Party Center, 1820 Akron-Peninsula Road.

New ABJ hours
AKRON.: Circulation call center hours at the Beacon Journal will be 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays beginning March 2.
Those who need replacement papers because of missed delivery or damage must call before 9:30 a.m. Mondays through Fridays and by 10 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
Calls received on the automated system after posted hours will be processed the next business day.
