AKRON
Two men stabbed
AKRON: An Akron man who is accused of stabbing two people early Thursday morning also bit a police officer, authorities say.
Officers responded shortly after 2 a.m. to the 2900 block of Shelburn Street, where David Stevens, 25, of East Park Boulevard, and David Golias, 26, of Misty Street in Uniontown, reported they had been stabbed by the same suspect during a fight.
The men were taken to Akron City Hospital with injuries that do not appear to be life threatening, authorities said.
Following the incident, officers located and arrested Thomas Parlette, 33, of Nicholas Avenue, on Freemont Avenue.
Police said a struggle ensued after Parlette tried to escape. They said Parlette bit an officer on the hand during the scuffle.
The officer was taken to Akron General Medical Center for treatment.
Parlette, who received a minor cut on the chin during the struggle, was taken to St. Thomas Hospital for treatment.
He was booked into the Summit County Jail and was charged with two counts of felonious assault on Stevens and Golias, one count of felonious assault on a police officer and one count of escape.
Man shoots teen
AKRON: Police arrested a 75-year-old Akron man Wednesday night after he allegedly shot a 17-year-old following a quarrel.
Martin L. Smith of South Main Street was arrested in the 1000 block of Sweitzer Avenue after he pulled out a handgun and shot the youth in the foot, police said.
The incident occurred about 7 p.m. at Sweitzer and East Miller avenues.
The youth was transported to Akron General Medical Center.
Smith was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, weapons under disability, weapons while intoxicated, felonious assault and other charges.
He was booked into the Summit County jail.
Firefighter hurt
AKRON: An Akron firefighter suffered minor injuries while helping to extinguish a fire in a vacant house on Cambridge Avenue early Thursday morning.
Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the house when firefighters arrived on the scene at 5:41 a.m.
A firefighter was injured when he fell through a floor.
The fire, caused by an electrical problem, started in the basement of the home and caused about $25,000 damage.
The house, which was in the process of being rehabilitated, is valued at $45,000.
Motorist dies
AKRON: An Akron man involved in a traffic accident last weekend died Wednesday night.
Richard Arnold, 55, of Blanding Avenue, died at 11:45 p.m. at Akron General Medical Center, where he was taken following a traffic accident that occurred at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, said Gary Gunther of the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office.
Arnold was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the car he was driving, went off the road and struck a house in the 500 block of East South Street.
ALLIANCE
Theft suspect held
ALLIANCE: Police have arrested a man suspected of breaking into homes of Mount Union College students, stealing underwear and other personal items and vandalizing the homes with sexually explicit and racial messages.
Thomas Williams, 25, was arrested Wednesday night after police obtained a warrant to search a residence in the 100 block of Federal Avenue. Police seized women's underwear, perfumes, body lotions and pictures of the burglary victims during the search.
Some of the items seized included 276 pairs of women's underwear, 38 bras, 589 bottles of perfume and lotion, hundreds of pictures and a .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol. In addition, officers located a duffel bag containing rope, duct tape and handcuffs.
Williams was arrested on one count of receiving stolen property related to the gun, which was reportedly stolen in Florida.
Authorities anticipate additional charges, including burglary, theft and menacing by stalking as victims are notified and the property is positively identified.

GREEN
Cycles silenced
GREEN: Motorcyclists operating in Green without baffles could soon be hearing from a judge.
After a complaint by a resident off South Main Street, council is asking Summit County sheriff's deputies patroling Green to crack down on loud motorcyclists.
Ward 4 Councilwoman Christine Croce said she has talked with sheriff's Major Roger Kline about the problem and has been assured that deputies will increase patrols and cite the owner when a motorcycle is found without a baffle.
NORTH CANTON
Derby Day planned
NORTH CANTON: The Walsh University Women's Committee will host its annual Kentucky Derby Day on Saturday at the Barrette Business and Community Center in the Brother Francoeur Conference Center.
The 135th running of the Kentucky Derby will be displayed on large-screen televisions. There will be dinner, betting on the race, dancing, a ladies hat contest and raffles. Music will be provided by Melanie and the Jam Boyz.
Tickets for the event, which starts at 4:30 p.m., are $85 per person. Advanced reservations are required and can be obtained by calling 330-490-7111.
Proceeds will go toward renovation of the Barrette Business and Community Center.
NORTH CANTON SCHOOLS
New and old buses
NORTH CANTON: The school board has approved the purchase of one new school bus as well as a used 2004 Bluebird bus.
Both are conventional 65-passenger buses.
The new bus will be bid through the Stark County Schools' Council of Governments at a cost of about $70,000.
The district's fleet of 50 buses has an average age of about 10 years and 105,303 in mileage.
SUMMIT COUNTY
Drug unit honored
AKRON: Summit County Council on Monday honored the Summit County Drug Unit for its efforts in busting methamphetamine labs.
The task force dismantled 68 meth labs in the county last year, a 42 percent increase over the previous year. Authorities have arrested more than 1,600 suspects and seized more than $35 million worth of drugs since it was established in 2001.
Councilman Jon Poda, who headed a meth task force last year, applauded the drug unit for its hard work and handed out commendations to authorities who attended the meeting.
The task force is made up of officers from Summit County; Akron; the University of Akron; Barberton; Copley Township, Cuyahoga Falls; Reminderville; Springfield Township; Stow; the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Drug Enforcement Agency and the FBI.
TWINSBURG
Woman found dead
TWINSBURG: Police have arrested a suspect in the death of a 34-year-old woman found Thursday morning inside her Darrow Park Drive apartment in Twinsburg.
Police went to the residence of Cherilyn R. Terrion about 11 a.m. at the request of her employer after she did not show up for work, according to an investigator with the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office.
Officers knocked and after receiving no answer had a representative of the apartment management company let them into the unit. Officers could hear a television playing inside.
The suspect was found in the village of Glenwillow in Cuyahoga County. Police told the medical examiner's office they would release the suspect's name once charges had been filed.
No other information was immediately available.
