AKRON
Pets seek homes
AKRON: Dogs, cats, bunnies, birds and other adoptable pets will be at Hardesty Park Saturday for the 8th Annual Akron Pets Expo.
More than 50 rescue agencies will be at the event with animals available for adoption from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the park, at 1615 W. Market St.
Vendors will have pet-related merchandise for sale.
Admission is free.
Lunch and music
AKRON.: Musician Barry Be will perform in a lunchtime concert at the Mustill Store on Friday.
The show will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the historic store off West North Street near downtown Akron.
Beverages and snacks will be available. The show will be moved indoors if it rains.

BATH TWP.
Fire station tour
BATH TWP.: The venue for the 7 p.m. June 8 meeting of Bath Township trustees has been changed from the Bath Administration offices to the Stony Hill Fire Station, 4570 Medina Road, in Copley Township.
The station is jointly operated by the Bath and Copley township fire departments.
Trustees invite residents to tour the station after the board meeting.
CANAL FULTON
Breakfast near boat
CANAL FULTON: Volunteers and crew of the St. Helena III canal boat will be serving pancakes and sausage on June 6.
The breakfast will be served from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Canal Fulton Canalway Center, 125 Tuscarawas St.
Tickets are $12, which includes a boat ride at 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. The ride may be taken on another date.

KENT
Dinner and dance
KENT: The Portage County Chapter of International Parents Without Partners will have a spaghetti dinner from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The event will take place before the group's monthly dance that will follow from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. at the VFW, 500 VFW Parkway.
Cost for the dinner and dance is $14.50 for members and $16.50 for nonmembers. The monthly dances are open to the public.

MEDINA
Creek cleanup
MEDINA: The Western Reserve Land Conservancy and the Rocky River Watershed Council are seeking volunteers to clean up Champion Creek on Saturday.
Volunteers are needed from 9 to 11 a.m. Participants should meet at Roscoe Ewing Park on Guilford Boulevard.
Volunteers should dress for the conditions and bring work gloves.

Lemonade stands
KENT: The Huscroft Family and Friends will host their Alex's Lemonade Stand Grand Stand from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 650 Beechmont Place to help fight childhood cancer.
Four-year-old cancer patient Alexandra ''Alex'' Scott, who was born in 1996 and died in 2004, began holding the lemonade stands, and the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation was formed. To date, it has raised more than $25 million, funding more than 100 research projects nationally.
The Huscroft group will also be hosting 12 additional stands in Portage and Summit counties. All stands will serve lemonade and some will offer baked goods and basket raffles.
Additional stands in Kent are at Evelyn Dickerson Hair Design, Pizzutes Plant-N-Thyme, Vaughn's Market 43, the United Methodist Church of Kent, Masterpieces on Main Wine & Art Festival and at 625 W. Main St.
Other locations are at Cascade Auto Group in Cuyahoga Falls, Lowe's in Streetsboro, Texture Salon in Stow, Brust Park Gazebo in Munroe Falls, Prudential Kathy Reid Realty in Hudson and at 1170 Garman Road in Akron.
RICHFIELD
Community sale
RICHFIELD: The Richfield Civic Organization will sponsor its annual Community Garage Sale, with over 140 individual participants, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Maps and itemized lists of what will be available at each garage sale may be purchased for $1 from 8 a.m. to noon the day of the sale at state Routes 303 and 176.
Participating homes will have an official sign posted near the road.
Profits help fund a scholarship for a Revere High School senior, assist residents in need and aid the purchase of playground equipment.
SUFFIELD TWP.
Reservoir docks
SUFFIELD TWP.: Boaters at Mogadore Reservoir have four new launch docks, thanks to an Eagle Scout and the Ohio Division of Wildlife.
Joe Totts of Troop 559 removed old wooden docks and replaced them with two new docks at the Lansinger Road launch and one each at state Route 43 and Congress Lake Road launches.
Totts was supported by other scouts in his troop and got donations from local sportsmen's clubs and companies. The docks were built of materials promising improved durability.
''These new, first-class boat-launch facilities will enhance fishing opportunities for anglers, allowing for faster, safer and more convenient boat launching,'' said Chris Aman, the Division of Wildlife fish biologist who oversaw the project. The city of Akron also approved the project.
SUMMIT COUNTY
Victim Assistance
AKRON: Summit County has renewed a $75,000 grant this year to the Victim Assistance Program.
County Council approved the funding this week.
Victim Assistance provides services to victims of crime and trauma, including crisis intervention, court support and court advocacy.
Event shuts trail
SAGAMORE HILLS TWP.: A section of the Bike & Hike Trail in northern Summit County will be closed on Saturday.
The trail between Valley View Road and state Route 82 will be closed from 6 to 10 a.m. for the Nordonia Hills Duathlon and Family Fitness Walk.

Refugee services
AKRON: The International Institute of Akron has received a one-year, $200,014 contract from Summit County.
The nonprofit group will handle refugee services for the county. County Council approved the funding this week.

WADSWORTH
Funds for township
WADSWORTH: City council has appropriated $41,414 as Wadsworth Township's share of the additional taxes collected from the development of land the city recently annexed from the township.
Under state law, the city is required to share the additional tax revenue from recently annexed land.
The land includes the Wadsworth Crossings retail center.
