AKRON
$25,000 in damage
AKRON: Fire damaged a home at 617 Euclid Ave. on Friday night, the Akron Fire Department reported.
The fire, which was reported at 10:35 p.m., started in an outside wall and the back of the house. No one was injured.
The loss was estimated at $20,000 to the building and $5,000 to the contents.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
Fundraiser for Cook
AKRON: The campaign for Katarina Cook for Judge of the Akron Municipal Court will hold its first fundraiser, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at 750 ml Wines, 2287 W. Market St.
The event is a cocktail reception. Wines from Spain will be featured.
Recommended donations are $75 per person or $125 per couple.

Special meeting
CUYAHOGA FALLS: The Falls City Council will hold a special meeting Monday to discuss and vote on development of a sewer line along Seasons Road.
The sewer line is part of the infrastructure development for a new hospital proposed for the Seasons Road area. Stow, Hudson and Cuyahoga Falls agreed to share the cost of the project.
On Thursday, the Stow Council tabled similar legislation until Monday because of wording.
The Stow Council also learned Thursday that an application for a $750,000 grant to cover some of the costs of the project has been denied by the state.

Resolution passes
STOW: The Stow City Council on Thursday passed a resolution opposing state cuts to the Public Library Fund.
Gov. Ted Strickland has proposed a 50 percent decrease in library funding, which would affect libraries throughout the state, including the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library.
Council member Janet D'Antonio, who sponsored the resolution, said cutting funds could result in reduced hours, material and staff for the library in Stow.

Rib event Friday
WADSWORTH: The 2009 Wadsworth Rib Cook-Off will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Wadsworth Center for Older Adults, 138 High St.
Sponsored by the Wadsworth Older Adults Foundation and Professional Friends, the event will be held rain or shine.
