PetSmart Charities launched the Rescue Waggin' program in 2004.
The program operates in 24 states, with four regional routes in the East, Midwest, Great Plains and South Central areas.
The program has saved 25,000 dogs. It expects to save 8,000 this year.
The Rescue Waggin' vehicles have traveled 750,000 miles. Each vehicle can transport 50 to 60 dogs at one time.
The vehicles have temperature-controlled environments and piped-in lullaby music for the dogs.
Summit County is one of four shelters participating in Ohio. The others are Logan, Richland and Knox counties.
For details about the Summit County animal shelter or Rescue Waggin', call 330-643-2845 or go to http://www.co.summit.oh.us or http://www.petsmartcharities.org/rescue-waggin/.
