5 men charged in Ohio organized crime probe

Associated Press

CINCINNATI: Authorities say an investigation of organized crime in Southwest Ohio has led to charges against five men.

Investigators say most of the suspects indicted Thursday in Cincinnati by a Hamilton County grand jury are accused of collectively stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from several small businesses. They say the primary targets were small businesses with ATMs or safes.

State Attorney General Mike DeWine says three of the men are charged with engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity. Other charges against four include breaking and entering, safecracking and theft. One defendant was charged with obstruction of justice. All are in custody.

The county sheriff’s office and police in Madeira, Silverton and West Chester cooperated in a task force under the attorney general’s Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission.
