The Summit County Board of Elections squabbled about several issues this morning, with most again centering on cost-cutting measures intended to bring the board's expenses more in line with other populous Ohio counties.
The board had several tie votes that will be sent to Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, including ones to decide whether board employees should be required to take monthly one-day furloughs through the rest of the year and if several interns whose status is in dispute should be paid.
Brunner, who already weighed in once on the board's dispute over staffing cuts, can break the tie votes, direct the board to try to work the issue out themselves or take no action.
In other business, the board disqualified six candidates from the Sept. 8 primary because of petition problems.
The candidates and the positions they sought are: Angie Young, Lakemore council; Cedric Colvin, Akron Ward 4 council; Jon Died, Akron Ward 9 council; Bob Brown, Cuyahoga Falls at-large council; Bob Lockhart, New Franklin mayor; and Mary Bednar, Stow Ward 4 council.
