TWINSBURG: A candlelight vigil and memorial service for murdered police officer Joshua T. Miktarian will be at 9 p.m. Monday.
The city will dedicate a monument to Miktarian and retire his badge during the ceremony at the new Officer Joshua T. Miktarian Memorial adjacent to the Twinsburg Government Center, 10075 Ravenna Road.
Miktarian, the only Twinsburg police officer to die in the line of duty in the department's 54-year history, was shot and killed July 13, 2008.
Ashford L. Thompson, 24, pleaded guilty April 13 to aggravated murder, escape and other offenses. He will be sentenced in mid-October.
The officer was shot five or six times — four times in the head — after pulling over Thompson about 2 a.m. near Thompson's home on Glenwood Drive, according to evidence established when Thompson pleaded guilty.
Thompson was driving a 1998 Dodge Intrepid with a female companion in the front passenger seat. He was pulled over for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and for loud music.
The city advises those attending the vigil and service to gather at Twinsburg High School, 10084 Ravenna Road, beginning at 8:30 p.m. At 9 p.m., the candlelight vigil will proceed from the school to the memorial site. The service will begin about 9:15 p.m. Residents are encouraged to bring candles.
Parking for the public is at the high school. Only those with handicapped placards will be allowed to park at the Government Center.
Ravenna Road will be closed at the center beginning at 8:55 p.m. Traffic will be detoured. The road will reopen about 10 p.m.

God bless Officer Miktarian -- a great man who died way too young.
Blue Angels
I see their golden wings
And some silver ones too,
These angels of heaven
Men who once proudly wore the blue.
Where once sat a shiny hat
Now rests a halo of light,
The chest that once was dressed in blue
Now is clothed in flowing white.
Though you may not see the badge
That was worn on their earthly chests,
It still shines brightly
Within their heavenly breasts.
They now walk
A heavenly beat,
Through pearly gates,
Along golden streets.
Above a star filled sky,
With a heavenly view,
Rise the songs these angels sing,
Angels forever in blue.
RIP Joshua Miktarian
RIP Daniel Crabtree
Lost, but never forgotten.
A nice honorarium for Miktarian.
Incredibly sad...I weep for those fallen in the line of duty.
I saw the motorcade going towards Tallmadge the morning of his funeral. I hate cop-killers, I have no respect for them.
Great cause, great man. He died helping and saving people. I support this warrior against crime. God bless him and his family.
