A University of Akron trustee will face a hearing and possible trial July 28 on charges that he had a stake in the house his son was poised to sell to the university.
Jack Morrison Jr. of Silver Lake could face up to 18 months in jail and a $3,000 fine if convicted of three or more of the seven misdemeanors with which he has been charged.
The Ohio Ethics Commission and Summit County prosecutor accuse Morrison of loaning his son money to buy a home at 334 Spicer St. that UA agreed to acquire the following year for a 44 percent profit.
Morrison maintains he is being selectively prosecuted because he is prominent as secretary of the Summit County Republican Party. He also is chairman of the Summit County Board of Elections and president of the Amer Cunningham law firm, where his son, Jack W. Morrison, is an associate attorney.
A 9 a.m. hearing before visiting Common Pleas Judge Judith Cross will address the elder Morrison's request that the case be dismissed.
A jury trial could begin at 10 a.m.

FEAR THE ' ROO. . .
I have faith that a just and good result will be the outcome of this hearing. Right now, as a minimum, Mr. Morrison appears to be guilty of poor judgment and excuse making. He kind of reminds me of the cartoon character who always has a little dark cloud over his head. Even if he is found not guilty, the cloud will remain. I hope he will step down from the trustees no matter what happens in court.
Actually, Jack, you are a nobody. Don't put yourself on a pedestal.
You did a sort of "insider trading". What you did was unethical.
Take your lumps and don't droop your pants.
