Columbus rally draws large crowd

Diverse groups gather in support of resolution asserting states' rights

Associated Press
COLUMBUS: A rally attended by thousands Saturday at the Ohio Statehouse protested federal government power under President Barack Obama and called for the passage of a measure to assert states' rights.

The new Ohio Liberty Council staged the rally to protest what the council views as the usurping of power by the federal government in areas such as health care and energy.

The council called for passage of an Ohio Senate resolution to assert states' rights in areas that the U.S. Constitution does not grant the federal government the power to oversee.

The council consists of such groups as Americans for Prosperity, the Buckeye Firearms Association and the Ohio Freedom Alliance.

A handful of states, including Florida, have introduced measures to assert states' rights.

''I want the right to drive a gas-guzzler and choose my own health care,'' said Amy Chauvette, 45, of Toledo, who held a sign that read, ''America home of the free? Not lately.''

''Government is losing sight of what they are really there for,'' she said. ''They are not there to run car companies or health care. They are there to keep this country free.''

Though most who attended the rally directed their ire at Obama and Democrats, some who attended also blamed President Bush, a Republican, for approving the first federal bank bailout and criticized Republicans for allowing government to grow when they were in power.

Once again the ABJ shows its liberal bias. This protest was not against Obama and Democrats as stated. I was there!
This protest was against Big Government, Excessive Taxation, 2nd Amendment Rights and Liberty. We were against Bush and his big spending and the same goes 4 times over for this president who has quadrupled what Bush did in 8years in just one year!
Government has outgrown its Constitutional role and it's time to reign it in.
There were 10,000 freedom loving, red blooded Americans at this rally and the picture in the paper does not do it justice. It looks like there was 10 people there.
This is typical liberal ABJ coverage of a great event but that's okay because we are not going away and we will be heard!

Don't worry CHL, the feds are now going to make the middle class pay for healthcare Obama is trying to pass.

I already have good health insurance provided. It would only make sense to ruin that and have me pay for all those people who refuse to work. And This government is not socilist? The middle class is getting screwed again.
