CUYAHOGA FALLS: State Route 8 will be reduced to one lane in each direction from Portage Trail to Howe Avenue for bridge work from 7 p.m. Friday until 6 p.m. Sunday, the Ohio Department of Transportation said.
The work, which depends on the weather, is part of a $6 million project to resurface Route 8 from the Howe interchange to the Graham Road interchange.
PLAIN TWP.
Services set
PLAIN TWP.: Funeral services for the 20-year-old victim of a one-car crash will be at 11 a.m. today at the Reed Funeral Home, 801 Pittsburg Ave. NW, in North Canton.
Brian D. Beck, of Plain Township, was killed in the crash around 2 a.m. Saturday on state Route 550 in Barlow Township near Marietta in Washington County, the State Highway Patrol said.
The 2008 graduate of GlenOak High School was a passenger in a car driven by Rachelle E. Barr, 18, of Canton, that went off the side of the road, struck an embankment and went into the air before landing and overturning several times. The patrol said alcohol use is suspected in the crash.
REVERE SCHOOLS
Budget set
BATH TWP.: The Revere school board Tuesday unanimously approved its 2009-10 budget of $43,032,097, up from last year's total of $39 million.
Officials say the increase is the result of higher medical costs, expected increases in utilities and fuel costs, and some improvement projects in the works, including a new bus garage. The district has money set aside from previous years and also an influx of nearly $1.2 million in federal stimulus funds, said David Forrest, district chief financial officer and treasurer.
The board also approved 1.5 percent salary increases for district administrators.
The board set the salary of Assistant Superintendent Kathy Bearer at $98,000.
STARK COUNTY
County gas rates
CANTON: Stark County commissioners Wednesday struck a price for natural gas supplies under their customer aggregation program.
Customers served by Dominion East Ohio will pay $6.98 per 1,000 cubic feet. Columbia Gas customers will pay $7.14 per 1,000 cubic feet.
The rate will be available to residential and commercial customers in the unincorporated parts on the county who do not have a contract with a supplier.
The county's supplier will mail notices to qualifying residents and businesses who may choose to opt out of the program.
WADSWORTH
Bids for sewer work
WADSWORTH: The City Council on Tuesday approved the taking of bids to improve the Orchard Trunk sanitary sewer, which serves much of the western portion of the city.
Service Director Chris Easton said the expected cost of the project will be $250,000, paid through federal stimulus funds.
The council also approved the taking of bids to improve the instrumentation of four of the city's water wells which, Easton said, is estimated to be $182,000.
In other action, Democrat Patricia Haskins was sworn in as a member of the council by Law Director Norman Brague to fill an at-large vacancy left by the resignation of Eugene Kovack.
Haskins, on the November ballot as a candidate to represent Ward 1, will hold the at-large seat until the end of the year.
