At-large council hopeful wins recount by seven votes in Democratic primary
By Stephanie Warsmith

It's official: Jeff Fusco narrowly edged out Terry Albanese to become the third Democratic at-large Akron City Council candidate.
The Summit County elections board did an automatic recount Monday afternoon that still showed Fusco leading Albanese by seven votes. This was identical to what the board found when provisional and absentee votes were added Friday night to the unofficial vote.
The recount had Fusco winning by 4,817 to 4,810 votes over Albanese, the Ward 6 councilwoman.
''I'm very pleased with the results and eager to get started getting ready for the November election,'' said Fusco, a former Akron council member and retired Akron deputy public service
director.
Albanese, who ran on an at-large slate with Fusco that was supported by Mayor Don Plusquellic, congratulated Fusco.
''Council is getting someone who is not only experienced and knowledgeable, but who is a man of integrity,'' she said.
Albanese didn't rule out the possibility of trying again in four years. She said she thought she did well for her first time running city wide and is keeping her yard signs, just in case.
''I have nothing to complain about,'' she said.
Albanese and Fusco tied with 4,750 votes each on election night. The vote total isn't official until after provisional and absentee ballots are added and it is certified by the board. The board will meet to certify the recall results this morning.
The other top at-large Democratic vote getters were incumbent Mike Williams and Linda Omobien, a longtime Akron school board member.
The Democratic at-large winners will face the three top GOP candidates — David Sutter, David Kirschbaum and Michelle Dimeff — Nov. 3.
A Republican hasn't sat on council since 1997, when John Frank opted not to run for re-election.
The results mean there will be at least two new at-large council members, as well as three new ward representatives — a significant shakeup on the 13-member council.
The other new council members will be in wards 4, 6 and 8.

whopadeedooda akron still is a ghetto town. why would anyone live there
What does that mean DONKEY? Many people choose, and love to live here, and because individuals win races by short amounts means what to you...people are fools to vote closely for more than 3 qualified candidates? Just because the GOP looks to get waxed yet again, by the donkeys you look to punch BTW, won't change with a foolish blog entry, let alone poor candidates that can't stand in the field with known entities that have to duke it out down to 7 votes. Be sad if you must DONKEY, but if anyone needs punched, look either to your mirror, or the voting tickets that seem not to warrant a recount at all. And if you must call for a recall...we know how well that works.
I would like to point out that King Don has devastated real estate values in Akron with his massive layoff of Police and Fire. Who wants to live in an unsafe city? Fusco is one of his key pawns, vote him out in the General, even if you have cross party lines.
King Don must be stopped.
Mike Williams and Bruce Kilby had great speaches last night at the Rally.
McDonald,
It never ends, huh?
Congrats Jeff!
I wonder if the ABJ will bother to revisit Jeff Fusco's legal woes during his most recent stint as an employee of Akron's taxpayers?
Let us not forget the City of Akron "News Release" dated October 17, 2003 which begins...
=============
Late Thursday evening, a member of the administrative staff of the City of Akron was stopped by an Akron police officer. Jeff Fusco, deputy service director, was subsequently charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. At the time of the traffic stop, Fusco was driving a city-owned vehicle.
Fusco, 44, and his wife were out to dinner Thursday night until just before midnight when he arrived at city hall to pick-up his city car to drive home. He was stopped by the officer between city hall and his home.
Mayor Don Plusquellic issued a statement saying, "This morning, I have suspended Jeff Fusco from his employment with the City of Akron. The length of the suspension is indefinite.

and the follow-up on November 12, 2003
=================
Mayor Don Plusquellic today issued two disciplinary actions to Jeff Fusco, a member of his cabinet, arising from Fusco’s arrest October 16.
After reviewing police reports, other evidence, and after talking to Fusco himself, Plusquellic suspended Fusco 15 working days without pay.
Because the incident took place while Fusco was driving a city-owned vehicle, the mayor issued an additional suspension of 20 working days without pay.
The suspension, totaling seven weeks, began October 17.
At the mayor's direction, Fusco will be participating in the City's Employee Assistance Program.

People please cross party lines DO NOT VOTE FOR THIS CLOWN!! He is in the mayors pocket so deep he will never see daylight! Our city does not need another pawn, we need people with values, and people that care about the citizens. One way the city could save more money is STOP USING CITY CARS FOR PERSONAL REASONS!
@Sick of It...
There are no party lines to cross on November 3rd election.
This is a general election, so EVERY voter gets the same SECRET ballot.
Don't be afraid to 'BUCK' the Mayor and his favorites.
What positive thing have any of them done for you lately?
''Council is getting someone who is not only experienced and knowledgeable, but who is a man of integrity,'' she said.
He just likes to drink and drive. No big deal. I guess.
I know. Like all of you hipocrites on this site never drink and drive. whatever.....
Will someone in Mansfield have to create a 'custom' license tag for Jeff Fusco?

1/2 "City Plate"
