Akron police, investigating the weekend death of a 58-year-old woman, have arrested the victim's 20-year-old daughter and two others.
Police identified the dead woman as Kristie E. Burkholder Marks, whose most recent address was in Copley Township. A police statement says she ''was allegedly involved in an altercation Saturday at 7:50 p.m. in front of an address in the 900 block of Springdale Street, Akron, when she was reportedly stabbed.''
Marks was taken to Akron City Hospital, where she died.
Detectives said they have three individuals in custody, including the victim's only child, Taylor Melissa Mary Marks. Police say the daughter, who lived at the Springdale address, ''wanted her mother dead and offered $5,000.'' She was charged with complicity to commit aggravated murder.
Police have also charged Troy A. Purdie, 19, of Villa Avenue, Akron, with aggravated murder; and Brian S. Smith, 20, of the Springdale address, with complicity to commit aggravated murder. All three were booked into the Summit Jail.
An autopsy is scheduled for today. No other details were available.

Kristie was a beautiful and caring woman. She ran a company that provided help to those who could not help themselves (aged, injured, etc). She volunteered and served on fundraising committees. Kristie did everything she could to help her daughter. This is not a situation to make light of...but a tragedy. She gave her daughter, love, faith, educational opportunity and security. Her daughter chose to reject all of that...it's a very frightening scenario...
May God bless Kristie and help her find peace.
SAD STORY - GUESS THAT'S THE THANKS YOU GET
I'm surprised that the ABJ minimized this story. The headline doesnt even indicate that it was a grusome murder for hire of a mother.
Your Kids Have No Friends!
I can not believe how sick some of you people are. This girl had some serious problems and her mother lost her life for trying to help her only daughter. get a life
This is a very sad story, and even more tragic how some people can make fun of something so painful.
I pray for this family.
Wolf001 - What is so very funny about this?????
You are sick, sad and pitiful.
For those of you making remarks that YOU think are funny comments, yes, some times your comments are funny and warranted. Other times, I think you are as sick as the people committing the crimes you comment on about.
If her mother was indeed a caring person and tried to do the best she could for her daughter...and her daughter turns around and does that...take the daughter outside and put her down. Save someone else having to deal with that lunatic.
What a sad story!!! My prayers are with the family. The daughter will have to face the her problems now without the support of her mother.
Very sad, prayers to the friends and family.
PL and Abena, these folks have not yet had a tragedy in their homes. Death caused by sickness is one thing, homicide is a different pain.
Never funny!
I'm still waiting for some unsavory Racial comments, don't let me down I know its in y'all, OH! I keep forgetting they are White and not Black so therefore the racial comments won't show in here
The daughter may have had some issues but how does that explain the two other suspects?
Looking at their mug shots, I see emptiness and desperation.
I know y'all probably say why I keep sticking up for them Black People, its about being fair to all people,I'm white and very proud but some of you in here are very embarrassing.
LMAO, now its Emptiness and Desperation, would it had
been that if they had been Black........
Bubblehead your comments proves my point when it comes to certain stories.
Where are these mug shots? I knew Kristie from business functions in Medina, she was such a great lady, this is a very sad story!
This is such a tragedy. I knew Kristi and Taylor. They had such a troubled relationship. Kristi tried for years to help Taylor. Taylor suffered from physical illness, mental illness and recently mixed drugs with all of that. Kristi, you are missed! The other two suspects took advantage of a sick child. They have no excuse. Either does Taylor but Kristi loved her daughter!
Ty, please keep your reversed racial comments out of this. There is a tragedy here. No one cares about the color of the suspects. Get real.
But Ty, one of the suspects IS black....it must make you feel good to see the young people overcome racial differences and work together for a common goal...right?
How scary is it that people will take someone life at the drop of a hat and that others will help or get involved so easily. And this wasnt petty theft - it was murder. Now we get to pay for there life long stay in prison!
So sad for all; hope the daughter can get some help but now it is too late for her mom. RIP Kristie. Who knows what stories Taylor told the 2 men; she might have made them believe she was being threatened by her mom and the money made it seem worth it.
What gets me is how the ABJ runs a headline of "stabbing" instead of "murder for hire". Is this their way of trying to protect us from realizing how unsafe Akron has become?
Please people, when you vote in Nov, realize this -your vote is not an us vs them (Dem vs Rep)... The person you vote for will have a direct affect on YOUR quality of life in your city. If you are tired of the way it is headed, then YOU must make a change.
Ty, shut your piehole.
This is so sad.
You can't say what your child or children wouldn't do.
The one person that would be there for her is gone. The girl may not be thinking of this. But from this day forward she'll have HELL to pay.
Nobody like Mama.
Before it's over she'll wish it was here instead of mom.
I knew Kristy and Taylor very well, and this story breaks my heart. Kristy was an absolute angel and one of the nicest people I ever met. I know for a fact that she lived and breathed for her daughter, and I hope to God that she was spared the pain of knowing before she died that Taylor had anything to do with the attack. Taylor is also very sweet under normal circumstances, and when things were normal, she loved her mother. If, as another poster has said, she got mixed up with drugs, then it was that illness that drove her to this horrible act. If she can get back to her normal state of mind, she will be devastated beyond belief at her mother's death. Perhaps she was also badly influenced by other people; I don't know her boyfriend or who she's been hanging around with lately, so I can't say if they were the sort that could have pushed her to this. At any rate, anyone who could hear of this tragedy and laugh or make jokes is in dire need of being slain themselves, as their lack of humanity and empathy is truly frightening.
Ok 3rd times a charm.so I'll keep it simple so they will post this one for chri*ts sakes...
TY your a pos..there,,sweet and simple.
Deal with it.
Taylor dated My cousin. She had alot of problems. Once She layed down on the ground while we were watching a movie and started convulsing, when we went up to her to ask her what was wrong she sat up and in a deep voice said "Taylor's not here right now"....yeah...She definetly wasnt all there.
Its sad that she would take it this far. And just for money...
She has problems, the other two boys just make me sick...
@jess,you said it right when you said boys.
We are all poorer for the loss of this woman.
What a horrible story. Things like this make me want to call up my mother and tell her how much I love her and how grateful I am for all she has done for me.
I knew Kristy as well and take this to heart- She was a wonderful careing compasionate woman, who put others 1st.
She was so innocent of a person who would never cause any harm- May God rest peace over Kristy and walk beside her-
You know the sad part is....? Kristy would prob forgive her daughter and tell her she loves her...
I hope all 3 of those trash ungodly animals are dragged on salty pavement into hell...
think they have problems now? Wait till their stareing at concreate wall all day-
I hope all send mail to her daughter and the 2 other scumbags everyday to rub salt in their wounds- Id persoanlly kill all 3 of you right now!
My daughter was friends with Taylor in high school - I called her to ask about this and she was just shocked - she never thought there had been any trouble between mother and daughter at all - she remembers Kristi fondly and recalled seeing her at the store frequently. My older girl is at work currently, but I am sure she will be equally shocked and appalled.
By the way - can we leave the snipy racist BS out of this please?? Not appropriate.
This is so sad.....

Yes Bubblehead this is what a generation looks like that no longer believe or obey in a creator.
Some kids never grow up respecting their parents.
Look at the types of friends this girl had made while running the streets !! Shameful .
i knew the dude that stabbed that lady. he went to north when i was a freshman and sophmore. I feel bad for the lady that died. i'm still in shock that he killed someone. But if you need money you'll do what you have to do to survive. But it is unfortunate that sometime had to die in the process.
