Plan stresses safety for biking, walking

BATH TWP.: After about nine months of work, officials from Bath and Richfield townships, Richfield village, Revere schools and the Summit County engineer's office have completed a Revere school travel plan.
A federal grant for up to $500,000 is available to carry out the recommendations in the final Safe Routes to School Plan for Revere schools.
The goal of this effort is to establish safe walking and biking routes between the schools and homes in the communities that make up the school district, including the main campus area at Everett and Revere roads and at Bath Elementary School at Cleveland-Massillon and Bath roads.
Traffic signals around schools and safety on the roads are the key efforts to be addressed in the plan.
The recommendations include better traffic patterns for the safe transfer of students to and from the school doors, connecting walkways and driveways between Revere Middle and Hillcrest schools, and walkways and driveways at Bath Elementary.
Safety improvements on the roads include crosswalks and possibly a traffic light, as well as a turning lane at the Revere and Everett roads intersection, a turning lane at Bath Elementary and enhanced signs and lighting.
Other areas to be looked at include roadways within a half-mile of the schools, particularly a dip in Revere Road south of Revere Middle School, and the Everett Road bridge over Interstate 77.
A survey seeking input from parents is available at http://www.revereschools.org through Tuesday.
The next step in the effort is to seek the input of a traffic engineer to determine the problems and to look at solutions, said Bath Township Trustee Elaina Goodrich, who is a member of the Safe Routes to Schools group.
A public meeting to review the effort so far is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Bath trustees' meeting room at 3864 W. Bath Road.

My dyslexia got the better of me on this headline. I thought maybe an airport was in the works in Revere... On a related note, when going house to house this past Saturday , I telled "Trick or Trout"......
