Tallmadge's Unity Chapel of Light plans lectures, prayers and services

A group of Tibetan monks from the Dzindu Monastery in India will be in Tallmadge for eight days beginning today at Unity Chapel of Light, 503 Northwest Ave.
The monks, who are touring the United States, will share Buddhist traditions during lectures, prayers and ritual services. They will also be available for pujas, or blessings of homes and businesses, on a donation basis. Donations will also be accepted for all events at the church. Funds will be used for the exiled monks and their monastery based in Mundgod, India.
A welcome ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. today, with teaching beginning at 10:15 a.m. and ending at 3:30 p.m. On Sunday, Geshe Gankar Rinpoche will deliver the message during the 10 a.m. service. Teaching will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday and there will be an opening ceremony for a mandala, which represents the universe or wholeness. The monks will begin constructing a mandala of colorful sands after the ceremony. Mandala construction viewing hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Friday and 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
A mindfulness meditation and teaching will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and a traditional Tibetan dinner will be at 6 p.m. Friday. Cost of the dinner is $15 and reservations are required. Teaching will resume Nov. 14 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
