GREEN: Mayor Dick Norton has declared the week of Nov. 16-20 as Diebold Week to honor 150 years in business for the city's largest employer with its world headquarters located here.
''Diebold is an important business to Green and to the state of Ohio,'' Norton said. ''We are pleased to have a company of its standing in our city.''
Aside from its world headquarters, Diebold also has three additional facilities located in Green and has more than 1,900 employees.
Norton will present Diebold President and CEO Thomas Swidarski with Green's first Distinguished Business Award at a ceremony that is expected to be attended by elected officials, Diebold executives and business leaders at 10 a.m. on Nov. 20 at Diebold's Global Solutions on Mayfair Road.
''We are honored to receive the City of Green's Distinguished Business Award, and to be established in a community that recognizes the importance of building strong relationships with local companies and businesses,'' Swidarski said.
Norton said Diebold has contributed ''$60 million in economic benefits through taxes in the last five years.''
''They [Diebold] certainly deserve the recognition for all they have done for Green and other communities in the region,'' Norton said.
Green communications director Valerie Wolford said there will be a large banner celebrating the event at the traffic island on Massillon Road just south of the Interstate 77 exit to alert the public.
There also will be banners placed in the lunchroom at each of the four Diebold facilities located in Green to make employees aware of the event.

Diebold is a wonderful place to work-great people!
Could Mayor Norton's lips get any closer to Diebold's arse?
Looks like Valerie Wolford is earning her 80k salary by creating a banner (money well spent I must say on behalf of Green taxpayers), hopefully she uses spellcheck on it.
1900 employees! That is all that is left! WOW! At one time Diebold had 3500 employees in the local area. Must be all of that outsourcing of manufacturing to China? Sad at one time; Timken, Republic Steel, Diebold were by far the largest employers in this area. Now it is hopsitals.
So called "outsourcing to China" is not the cause of Diebold's current condition as "nevermore" suggests. Diebold use to make large steel, labor intensive, vault doors for large vaults that held all the cash you had to go to the teller to get, and each teller had a full complement of drawers and cabinets. Now the tellers are gone and so is the cash...all because of the AUTOMAIC TELLER MACHINE (ATM)!!! It is because of good management over those transition years that Diebold did not disappear like the others in that old banking world.
My 25,plus, years at Diebold were the best career any one could have asked for. I expect the team in place now to keep up the good work.
Smart mayor honoring the largest contributor to their tax base.
FOLLOW THE MONEY !!!
Where's GEORGE??
Diebold helped him steal the election you'd think he'd show SOME gratitude, huh?
