Kent officers seeking help in assault of college student

Kent police are asking for help in the investigation of what they say was an unprovoked assault early Sunday of a 23-year-old Kent State University student who remains in intensive care at Akron City Hospital.

The student, Christopher M. Kernich, of Fairborn, Ohio, suffered head injuries, police said.

Officers found Kernich lying unconscious on the devil's strip on the north side of Main Street after 2 a.m. Sunday.

Police have charged two Akron men — Ronald Gene Kelly, 20, and Adrian Alexander Barker, 21, with felonious assault.

Police said the incident began when Kelly, Barker and a third suspect pulled out of a parking lot off Main and nearly struck Kernich and several others.

Kernich's group continued walking east on East Main and were assaulted, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 330-673-7732.

This is the headline story at www.recordpub.com if anyone wants to see the pictures of the victim and the perps along with a bit more of a story. It's just another case of unprovoked violence against another human.

It also sets.
Rain is wet
snow is cold
If you need more info...

The pictures say it all. One of these t u r d s has a facebook page that says a lot about his intent. He calls himself "Blackie the blackest". I bet that this is not investigated as a hate crime. It would if the situation was reversed. Good thing this didn't happen in Akron. Here, it gets swept under the rug so that the delicate sensitivities of those that reproduce this endless stream of f e c e s are offended. At least Kent police are investigating and arresting suspects.

What I want to know about this story (and seems to be missing from the article) is whether or not the people the victim was with ran and got help for him. The articles all suggest he was found on a tree lawn - so did his friends leave him there? More details on this would be helpful!

Actually, others in the group were also assaulted, but not to the same degree. Stleo - you're just as bad as the akron men that assualted this student, this is a serious matter not one to joke about. Doctors don't know if he'll survive, but he's staying strong. There's a facebook group for Chris and you can view pictures and read more about what happened at: daytondailynews.com

Macjec, if his friends were smart after seeing such a savage beating, they left him relatively untouched to prevent further injury. If he'd had any damage to his spinal cord, turning or moving him could turn a bad situation into permanent paralysis.

I read the recordpub article and it talks about the fact that 911 was called right away. The way the ABJ article reads the kid was just found laying on the grass, as if he had been left for dead. Someone at the ABJ needs to work on their details. I agree moving him would have been a bad idea medically, I was just inquiring as to whether he had been left for dead as this article implies, or if people went for help or anything.

HEY DADDYS GIRL, The urban thugs even made their way to Kent now. What is this area coming to? I guess they couldn' find anyone left in Akron to hit over the head. At least they took a time out from making babies that us working folks would end up supporting for the next 18 years.

Thugs responsible? Shocked I am shocked I say.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Campus police should stop any and all hoodies hanging around campus and if they can not provide a valid school ID escort them off campus. They are there for one thing and one thing only....to prey on the naivete of the young students.
